Yesterday i had the pleasure of taking my favourite truck out on a route, it’s a little 55 plate 4x2 ERF. I dont know why i like it, but it has a certain charm to it and i always get a smile on on my face when i get to take it out.
So, there i was down near Hastings, going down a bumpy farm track, hit a bump and the bloody seat gave way and collapsed onto the floor of the cab
The farmer was in the field watching me drive up the track, he said it was the funniest thing he’d seen, one minute i was there, the next i was gone. Needlesss to say the truck came to a shuddering halt and stalled as i lost my footing on the clutch and brake
She’s now been taken off the road, so i cant drive her I’m just glad i wasnt on a motorway or main road.
no but one of our trucks has the button broken off for adjusting how soft the seat suspension is. Guess what? It couldn’t be any softer. The slightest bump and I’m violently bounced up and down for ages Max travel up and down, feet flying off pedals and everything
Had one truck several years ago where if you weren’t careful the backrest would go right back,
Had another where there was clumps of seat cushion missing and the seat base was tilted over, and there was no suspension to it neither.
Another where you could pump the seat up and it would gradually deflate again, so punp again blah blah
Air suspended seats and me don’t seem to get on. All the vehicles I’ve been in the seat would be fine after adjusting it whilst standing, but they would all go up a little every time I went over a bump. Not good when you’ve only got short legs like mine…
it would be nice if DAF yes you DAF,fitted a option to your seats to harden or soften the ride, like all other manufacturers do,to stop you getting bounced out of the window every time you hit a bump .
rant over
C-Kay:
Any else had anything like this happen to them?
Yeah… Mine was even more spectacular
When I was working with scouts, we had an old van like this one:
The back of it it was basically cargo space, but you had folding chairs to carry passengers. In upright position they were stored along the side walls, and if you wanted to seat there, you had to put it down and there was one metal leg in the middle of the seat which was supporting it.
I was seating on the very back, on the right side (it is important for the story, note the back door layout):
We were driving on the forrest, on the bumpy road without tarmac as we were heading for our scout camp. Suddenly leg suporting my seat went through the rotten floor and I slided down. I tried to save myself from falling, so I tried to catch anything and I got my hand onto the door handle… I opened the doors and felt outside into the big puddle… Lucky for me we were doing max 15 km/h at the moment, so I had only few bruises and scratches…
The idiot driver did not even noticed that anything happened, and they stopped about 50 m further down the road.
It wasn’t so funny then, but it’s really fun when I think about it now
