Hi Kindle 530,
Thanks to put photos on the site. Its good to see that men things remamber abbout Frans Maas, goed things as bad things and to reed storys at the time you war by Frans Maas as worker off subcontractor.
Regards, Bert Wolters.
I enjoyed my time working for FM, the only bad points were nearly all the trailers were old tilts, horrible things, i was lucky when i got a curtainsider!
A lot of the depots in England were untidy and small and badly organised, but the European depots were a lot better, they even had showers in them!!
The best thing about FM, was that you could be sent anywhere in Europe, and as it was my first European driving job, i really enjoyed it. My first trip was to Karlsrhue, 2nd was to Spandau in Berlin, when i got back off that, my boss offered me a loaded trailer to take to Athens, he said he would understand if i didnt want to do it as it was a long way and id just started drivivg abroad, 1 hour later i had the trailer on and was heading down to Dover, admittadly a bit scared but grinning from ear to ear at the thought of the adventure!
As requested Bert some Frans Maas Photos.
My Brother (Eddie Snax) subbied to Frans Maas for various hauliers in North Norfolk for many years, about 1989 to 2003.
At one point we both worked (Well we got paid ) for Buxtons haulage from North Walsham, driving a series of Renaults from battered old G290’s to Brand new Premiums. We weren’t the best paid and didn’t have the best kit, but we did have some laughs and were pretty much left to run our selves by the Boss.
Eddie Snax, G290 trapped in the snow. Or so he told the boss, but it was the same week that his then girlfriend spent a week up the road with him.
My first new motor, parked in Cross Hands in 1996, it seemed like a palace after 2 years driving G290’s.
Eddie Snaxs Turboliner with a BVT trailer, I think it was a company Frans Maas bought out and they got left with a load of ropey trailers. Your heart used ot sink when you saw you trailer number started with BVT.
Turboliner with a Frans Maas trailer, so Eddie moaning to the FM office must have paid dividends.
We finally get Premiums.
Because of poor rates, Buxtons stopped hauling for Frans Maas, so Eddie jumped ship and went to work for the Frans Maas in house haulier Yare Haulage. Didn’t last long and he then found another job driving a Renault.
