I am forced to work inside warehouse?

hi lads.
I am working for big uk company class 1 agency driver. In the way back i am always going somewhere to pick up “gold cages” used in M&s shops.
Everywhere the rules are that i’m reversing to bay, and

  • some warehouse operative want keys , then they loading cages and secure it, i am waiting in my cab
  • i am going to warehouse, some guys deliver cages to back of my trailer, i’m loading them
  • i am going to warehouse, some guy loading cages using fork lift, i secure it when hi is finish

my question is:
one warehouse (norbert neasden) want from me to walk inside warehouse and looking for cages
i am not working there, i have no risk assesment, when i asked for insurance if i have accident, they can’t provide it, but still force me do it (drive with cages sometimes far far away from my trailer)

I can load cages, when they are in back of my trailer,
tell me i am wrong or right

They cannot FORCE you to do anything - you allow them to control you

so what to say in my office, iam going to work tonight and my boss is ■■■■■■ , coz i am back yesterday without cages
i asked for insurance , they can’t show me, i asked is it health and safety if i even do not know where are emergency exits ect? no comments

what “law” statues say what duty i have?
loading, unloading?ok i can do that, but now do other jobs

when i unloading some green trays, i just take them out from trailer, next step is not my job, the same with cages, i required them in back doors, ready to pull to my trailer

stand up and say you will do it providing they prove this or that = simple

Boss can rant and rave all they like = that’s their problem

If it comes down to do it or lose your job then you have to decide what your priority is - your safety or the job

had to read this twice , to get the jist …

  1. ask the boss what he wants as different sites have different rules ( some want you to load some don’t want you on the warehouse floor etc.

  2. ask the boss are you meant to be wandering around a warehouse looking for the said cages ( then point out above point 1)

  3. remember its your job to secure the cages anyway.

4, If your paid by the hour take your time and screw them.

  1. If not paid by the hour Still screw them and take your time you might need another break under the WTD.

Either way play them at their own game a 9hr job becomes 11 hrs pushing your average WTD hours UP.

Employers liability insurance should be displayed in your depot/office if i recall . As regards Health and Saftey, you want a site induction? Then ask them for one.

They employ you, they can ask you to do what they want. You can refuse, and find another job if you don’t like it.

You sure about this? You don’t seem to be sure about anything else.

Have i missed something apart from the fact you don’t want to go trapsing around a warehouse to collect cages as you think its not part of your job and you’re looking for a law to say its not part of your job?

If I read this right, you’re an agency driver?

Good luck with standing your ground…might not have such a happy ending.

As long as you’re insured and up to the job do what the boss says after all he’s paying you, or ring the agency and tell them you don’t want to work there.

Like me you’re an agency worker you cannot argue as they can just get rid of you without much (if any) notice.
