Hypermarkets near zeebrugge/ostend

i am taking the wife and my mother on a minicruise from hull to zebrugge in november and was wondering if anybody knows of any hypermarkets or supermarkets between zeebrugge and ostend.
I will be taking the car as we plan to spend most of the day in ostend and hopefully do a bit of shopping as well ( and fill the car up with some cheap diesel  )

thanks in advance

andy

Forget about the cheap diesel.
Its the same price as ours now.

They usualy lay a coach on, to run all the minicruise passengers into Brugge and back again, so that you don’t need to take your car. The same if you are stopping over for one or two nights, the coaches even drop you at the hotel although I think that its one central pick-up point.

Both Brugge and Zeebrugge are quite small places and I don’t remember seeing any large super/hypermarkets. Not that I was looking for any, anyway.

Antwerp, Gent and Brussels are only a short drive away (an hour to Brussels, less to Antwerp or Gent), so any supermarkets would be there I would think. And as you are taking your car, they should be in easy reach. All around Brussels there are park and ride zones, so you wouldn’t have to try and navigate into the city whilst learning to drive on the wrong side of the road and how to cope with the Belgian style of driving. (They have only recently introduced driving tests :open_mouth:   ) Antwerp, I think is the same and I would expect that Gent is too.

Belgium is not a cheap place to go shopping, Clothes are expensive, supermarkets are not cheap and fuel is expensive.

If you want to buy a cheap hoover or lawnmower, than go to Stock Americain at Brugge  Its a bit like Arkwrights shop, they have everything you dont even need

i went on the p & o crusie last year at the same time and drove to france to dunkirk and theres a massive hypermarket there one of those that begin with A auchen i think absolutly massive of at exit 21 i think id have to have a look at a map it was a couple before the turn off for the ferry.
just remember to check your exchange rates cos i stopped at adenkirk for some cigs and a couple of other extras and i would have got a better deal on the ferry.
