It seems as though there was a truck rally yesterday, (no pictures, I don’t do photography), there was a good turnout and one of the highlights for me was a ‘howling’ Foden Micky Mouse 2 stroke, it sounded fantastic. It awakened memories of Hoveringhams 8 wheel tippers with the screaming 2 stroke and Fodens 12 speed box.
At times I tried with that 12 speed , god I DID try and I’m somewhat embarrassed to say I never mastered it.
The 2 stroke yesterday brought a lump to the throat of this old man.
Happy days.
I did, and I loved it, it was so delicate in operation that I once restarted on that big hill out of Ashbourne (Swinscoe?) after spinning to a halt on the snow covered surface in an empty Foden artic. It had a Cummins 205 I think and I tried several gears in turn very gently until it slowly pulled away again. I was amazed.
On the other hand, I was less than happy with the screaming 2 stroke in one of their other Fodens. This was a Mickey Mouse 8 wheeler which had the side of the bonnet missing and apart from the racket the heat in the middle of winter forced me to have a window open.
Both vehicles were owned by K & M of Bulwell, Nottingham.
It was the “war of the roses” 2 day truck run, day 1 was to the Leyland plant, day 2 was to the David Brown tractor museum near Huddersfield. The foden is the one pictured Tom French of Cumnock.
Thanks for posting those, I saw them on the run down from David Browns (it was raining but I was OK, I was sat in The Rat And Ratchet pub on Chapel Hill)
Thanks again for the photos.
