Not with that panel that’s the printer for readouts from the fridge.
Rigid or unit?

Newer carrier fridge commanders for rigids are like the second picture and will fit in a. Radio/tacho spare hole and the older one will be fitted somewhere in the cab. Assuming it’s a Carrier fridge of course.

That’s a Thermoking fridge commander.
But without knowing exactly what vehicle and fridge it is there are a number of different fridge commander units.

Don’t know why I asked rigid or unit given it has to be rigid for the printer to be in the cab as trailers have the printer on the trailer if fitted.

Whatever the panel used there will be a main power button assuming it is set to the right set point. Changing the set point can vary from unit to unit. You may also have multiple compartments so have to ensure the correct compartment is on and at the right set point.

Surely…
The people who pay you should know.

Obviously yes but clearly the question hasn’t been asked in advance at a guess by the post.

And yet again asking what make it was pointless as it’s a Carrier printer. So will have either of the carrier cab commanders I first pasted.

Absolutely…
I agree. Lets just hope the ice cream doesn’t start coming out of the bottom of the doors eh?

How do you think milkshakes are made it’s all the frozen ice cream that’s been defrosted and melted [emoji12][emoji23]

It may sound silly but one would think that if you are going to load a fridge that you would start it before leaving the yard, just to make sure it functions OK.Isn’t that part of a ‘pre trip’ check.

Indeed it certainly helps to ensure the fridge will start before leaving the yard the same as ensuring it has enough diesel if it has a separate diesel tank although I have had rigids in the past that ran off the white diesel tank and with red no longer being able to be used after April wouldn’t make sense to have selected tanks anymore so expect newer vehicles will just run off the white tank for new builds.

Have things changed that much? I did fridges out of west london for a period back in the 80’s.
Everytime I took one out I was shown usually by another driver the basics of how to operate it
and where the red diesel tank was. If I had any issues I just asked. I seem to remember it was all on a timer which I presume they still are. I never did an overnight stop with one only runs down the south coast.
Are drivers just expected to know these days?

Drivers these…
Day’s are usually told not to touch the fridge settings by the pointy shoe team. The shunters set them, park them up, the drivers take them out and then bring them back with return product or empty. I’ve met fridge drivers who’ve never set temperatures before, for the reasons I’ve just given. Seems crazy to me but, that’s what a lot of fridge firms do. The most common mistake which occurs is not being able to set the temp correctly. Drivers will push the buttons to set the temp required and then not press = or ‘set’. The unit then reverts to it’s previous temperature setting and the load goes to hell.
Showing yer age mate, timers went years ago, it’s all digital now.

Cheers Mr Larf, Yeah thought they would digi by now! Love all this modern stuff, we just got a new oven that cleans itself
and a microwave that steams.
All fine till they break.

This was also in the cab of the rigid.
I think it just didn’t work. I’m in the same lorry tomorrow so will ask before I leave.
It’s all learning [emoji3]

Then press the main power button on the left and make sure either switch 1 or 2 is also on dependant on whether you need compartment 1 or 2 on or both on if not using split temp.
If there is no power then either battery is flat, cab commander is goosed or it’s been disconnected because the fridge is faulty.

Both places I’ve worked at using fridges both large logistics companies with pointy shoes, and it is the drivers responsibility to ensure the fridge is set to the right temp and ensure there is enough diesel in the tank.
Never been told not to touch the fridge controls, sometimes they will lock the controls out for temp and changing between stop start and continuos run though.
Usually they are set to do defrost cycles at certain intervals. So manual defrsosts are generally not required.
Biggest issue we always had with frozen was the evaporator icing up when the fridge was open for too long with it running.
God I’m starting to sound the like the resident fridge engineer now. Shame he isn’t around to impart his knowledge to the OP [emoji23]

Op so the question is did you need to use the fridge for the product or did you just want to know how to work said fridge unit?
