How many trucks could fit on a football pitch

Serious question, I’ve came across a yard to let that’s 1.2 acres in a prime location with zero facilities about for truckers and I’m seriously considering having a go at a truck park,

Now 1.2 acres is roughly the size of a football pitch I’m trying to work out how trucks many would fit in comfortably leaving room for others to get out of course,

The goal is 50 with pretty much a guarantee to fill it Monday to Thursday.

The recommended dimensions of a football pitch are 105m x 68m, which is 7,140 sq metres and a truck is 16.5m x 2.5m which is 41.25 sq metres and 7140/ 41.25= 173.1 trucks. With no gaps of course. So I would say 50 should be quite achievable with gaps.

1.2 acres is about 5000 square metres. You’ll probably lose about half of that to allow for manouvering space. I’m sure with a bit of clever planning you’ll get 50 trucks in there. Maybe try speaking to an architect or even the local university to try and get a bit of advice.

Look at the area on the lower right, there is over 50 trucks parked / truck spaces there including the the roadways up the middle and either side, scales off about 120 x 50 to me so you are definitely in the right field.

No wishing to be miserable but unless you have all that sorted, planning might be a problem if you have to have change of use etc. When you read about these things that always seems to be the blocker, and from personal experience doing other things, blockers they are. Good luck though, I hope it works for you.

That’s made my mind up thanks for that.

Depends on the shape. To exaggerate for effect. 5000m x 1m will take zero. If it’s square with each side of about 70m say 16 trucks on 3 sides? Allowing for spinning them around and reversing in, plus different exit times? Fifty sounds a reasonable estimate.

Thanks for that excuse my inexperience it has
Permission granted for B1 business B2 genral industrial and B8 storage and distribution which I think covers it? Correct me if I’m wrong

I think it will be 1 or 0, if the first one doesn’t get stuck in the tunnel it will sink into the grass when it gets on the pitch blocking the way for the ones following it.

To be honest I do not know whether you are right or wrong, I don’t know much about planning permission, except that it always seems to be a problem. Like I said, really hope it comes off for you, got to be a good idea. I think from all the replies above you were right with the size /capacity.

Good luck…

Hope it works out for you.
