How long to tip 26 pallets

bit of an odd question but how long should it take to tip 26 pallets. Went to a regular drop yesterday and it normaly takes them aprox 1 hour however yesterday i got on bay at 2:45am and pulled off at 5:15 am. there excuse as to why they hadnt even started at 4:45 was we had a double decker that takes priority. however they started tipping me at 4:55 and took aprox 15 mins.

My argument to all this is that they must of started to tip me before hand whilst i was having a natter and a smoke. In whuch case they were just messing me around.

You have answered your own question. 15 mins

Why bother why get stressed.

How long is a peice of string?

So long as you gave keys to goods in, and update your traffic office they can take however long they want were just slaves unfortunately

Unless your a owner operator then chase them as it will be costing you

Quickest 8 minutes for 26 pallets at Newcold Wakefield. Slowest was 20 hours for four pallets at Yearsleys Coleshill.

I’ve been tipped inside 10 mins when they are desperate enough for the gear.

You can rack up at Costco in Crick and have the 26 pallets off and be leaving with your paperwork inside half an hour on some days. The efficiency at that place comes from the fact it’s well staffed, a good system and they have loads of room. Many RDCs fail on all three of them variables, hence we end up sat about like spare parts for hours as free warehousing.

That and they pay well hence have staff…

costco lutterworth, the carlsberg of warehousing… :sunglasses: plus a decent bacon cob and coffee whilst you wait…

It rather depends on what they are required to do. Do they simply pull the pallets off and sign for “26 pallets unchecked” or do they have to count cartons (or scan/check each box off individually)?

One of the places I often go to in Measham will usually have the full load of 33 Europallets off and paperwork signed in well under 15 minutes - just enough time for me to amble along to use their toilets and grab a cold drink. Another regular place in Northampton will tip and reload me in around 45 minutes on a good day.

On the other hand it never ceases to amaze me that our own warehouse staff take 2 hours+ to load a double-decker (with a proper dock leveller and full MHE) while it only takes about 40 minutes for me, a pump truck and forkie to tip it on arrival at the outbase.

It’s just one of those things that is completely outside of your control, so no point stressing over it. It takes as long as it takes, so just go into relaxation mode and enjoy the fact that you are being paid to do SQR(FA) while your read a book/watch a film/drink/eat/sleep or whatever.

Yeah always feels cruel how’s its the place that hands you a pager so you could feel free to snooze in the cab without worrying about missing the green light, or walk to the cheap food and drink thats on offer yet you’re tipped fast.
Yet places you’re sat for hours there’s a rank coffee machine and no access to canteen!

Luck of the draw mate, they are as a rule a total and complete clusterfluck, but every now and again they work like they’re supposed to.

lol, I was actually at Carlsberg Swan Valley last week and it took them 4 hours to load 9 pallets!

Also, I reckon ordinary haulage firms should start charging. I was looking at a skip hire firm’s website the other day. They offfer a service where you can load the skip while the driver waits. It said you get the first 15 mins free, then you’re charged £60 per hour after that. You can bet your life every man and his dog is throwing all the crap in that skip in the first 15 mins! In fact, I bet most are loaded in 5!

3 minutes, 45 seconds, Newcold, Wakefield , (Ancra trailer)
Cheers

Tesco Southampton , years & years ago , handed in keys , sat down , shout of bay 15 , couldn’t believe my ears , said to bloke , how the ■■■■ have you tipped 26 palls that quick , we haven’t as you haven’t undone the doors ( been using a roller shutter for months , I night I get a barn door )

^^This^^^ When I was tramping I couldn’t give a monkeys elbow whether they tipped me in ten minutes or ten hours, I got paid by the hour.

Sometimes it isn’t about the available bods to unload, but also about having space to put the pallets in the warehouse. It could be a square footage issue or bad organisation. What you don’t see is the quantity of goods they have already taken that day and things like that.

It does kind of stink when the haulier turns up at the booked time and has to sit on a bay for hours, then can be turned away for being an hour late on another occasion.

Whilst Costco is generally one of the better ones. I have been in there getting tipped for 3 hours once.

Normally if I have 26 pallets Lidl to tip I can do it in 20 mins easily although I then normally have a 30 minute break because of waiting for paperwork!

Sack all the useless pallet pullers, give us their wage on top and I will happily self tip forever. Would be far more efficient as well.

I tipped 25 pallets at Brakes at Portbury yesterday. I backed onto the bay, turned the engine off and popped it on break, the guy was stood beside me and took my keys and I ambled off to the drivers hospitality suite. He brought my keys and paperwork back and I jumped into the motor and turned the ignition on. I’d had 16 minutes on break! Not too shoddy I reckon.

I’ve had Tossco in the past tip me in 15 minutes numerous times, it’s just the waiting 3 or 4 hours for them to actually start to tip it. Why tip it when they get free storage space on trailers that are not theirs.

Thank God I never go to those places mostly anymore.

That’s what I plan to do when I have gotten more experience. I am not afraid of work and prefer to be busy going places and driving even if it is 12 hour days. I know some people love the sitting around and doing nothing but that’s not for me. I hate being idle. I will be looking for curtain sider / flatbed work as generally the stuff you are carrying the person wants A.S.A.P.
