How long have you held your hgv licence?

42 years class 1

48 and a half years!! :grimacing:

Four years class 2.

Coming up to two years class 1.

Had a Bus licence for 13 years.

Class 1, or whatever they call it now for 26 years, made a very good living but not a fortune. Most importantly I have enjoyed being a driver and had a good look round the UK and Europe at the companies expense.

Class 2: 2 years and a couple of months
Class 1: 2 years in September.

I’m 25 if that makes any difference.

36 yrs,
first truck, RHH 207H A Series ERF, 180 Gardner. ■■■■■■■■■ tin engine cover with a couple of blankets over it to deaden the noise, no power steering, no turbo. no electric windows, no night heater, no bunk, passenger footwell full of ropes keeping dry, sleeping bag and foam mattress rolled up on passenger seat, lump of plywood wedged behind seats, ice on the insides of the windows in winter. (Digs were for softies), King of the road.

Good to see I’m not the only one who kept the proper licences, mine’s still in one of my old folders, along with diary’s from 1984 to retirement, well almost one for each year. Didn,t bother with a diary until 1984.
Started on trucks in 1969,done most things with a truck except go over the water, nearly did a few times though,I used to tip on Dover docks!!

42 years and for the young lads on this site before even wind up windows, they have not always been electric you know.

What were they before wind up lol?

They were sliding windows, either fore and aft, or up and down. As they and the surrounds got worn out and knackered, they used to have to be jammed with ■■■ packets or little wedges to keep them in position and stop the buggers rattling :grimacing:

Got my Class 1 in Feb 1972 and my Double Deck PSV in April 1979, both now lapsed as I have been enjoying retirement for the last year or so. I should have done it years ago!!!
