How long does the DVLA take?

Does anybody know how long the DVLA takes to give you the results of a treadmill test? I had the treadmill test in early December last year after a heart bypass and still waiting to find out if I can still have my HGV back or not. I have phoned them many times and all I get is your paper work is in the queue you must wait.

Is that number for their medical department? I have been using 0300 790 6806 which goes to a auto switchboard that most of the time just says we are busy please try again later and hangs up.

03 numbers cost the same as an 01 or 02 number

i called about mine today and was told they hadnt received the results yet (did mine two weeks ago) so i called the hospital and enquied with them why they hadnt sent my results to dvla to betold they sent them that night i did my test, so i called dvla back and told them what the hospital said and all i got told was we havent recieved them but call back on friday. i have heard horror stories of waiting 6 months before you get told yes or no and the fastest i heard was two weeks, i would keep ringing twice a week as thats what i’m going to do because the doctor is now wanting to send me back to work

They say they received mine early in January after I done the treadmill early December but the xmas new year holidays in that so not too bad. I phoned them about three weeks ago and they said I was nealy at the top and they would let me know in two weeks I waited nothing so phoned again last Friday and all got out of them was “you are in the queue and you must wait” I will try again at the end of this week. My doctor keeps signing me off ok but my SSP has stopped now so I am on benefits of £64 a week I am not going to get rich on that I don’t think it helped when I told them if I had got out the trailer and not the cab from my last trip they would have been falling over them selfs with hand outs to give me.
Good luck with yours,
Chewy,

well i called the dvla today too see if they had news on my exercise test results and i didnt get the answer i was expecting, turns out dvla have never recieved the results of my exercise test (but they have the invoice for it) and have had too contact the hospital to get them resent, so i asked the inevetable question of how long it would take to be told at least another 4-8 weeks.

I would think sharp phone call to hospital to find out what the frig is going on,and make sure they hav’nt lost your records or your fitness report,in there system :exclamation: then check the post,i receveived something last wed,but it was posted in feb,and yes it was delivered by postie.as for the 4-8 week i would think thats the time scale their told to give out  he say’s" still waiting for mine to come back" oh and always try and deal with your consultant,to find out whats happened.

Latest news from the DVLA is they want more info from the hospital and are waiting for the consultant to get back to them. I was told to give two weeks and phone again.

yes i called the hospital and spoke to the dr’s assistant and told them what dvla had said too me on the phone, they have sent on another copy of exercise test to them but they cant understand why they say they lost the first one but have the invoice for it when everything is posted together, sounds like dvla could be stalling for time but i have been informed by my employer that if i havent had any comfirmation about my licence by middle of may then he is gonna have too let me go.

while your signed off medically he can’t,and waiting for your licence is just that. so bring it on is what i would say :exclamation: :exclamation:

i asked him too clarify by what he meant, he said that at end of may if i’m not back at work then he is stopping paying me sick pay as that will be 6 months i will have been off so i hope that i’m back before then

check out direct gov.co.uk.click on employment then it will show you the way to sick benifits and payments,it say’s that after 28wks 6-7 months, your employer must fill out ssp1form for you to claim employment support allowance.what ever that is,and there are phone numbers on the page you can ring for guidance. It might be worthwile to ring to see if you can go back to work and do light duties, they can’nt refuse you.thats what i done, then it brakes the sick period time, but check this with web page

doc says i can return anytime but as the firm i work for hasnt got a small truck or garage then there is nothing for me too do so doc just signs me off, am hopin it not gonna be much longer before they make there mind up

I got a letter today from them and they have revoked my HGV :frowning: :frowning: Does anybody know what a 56yr old driver with no licence can do to earn a living?

Have you spoken to the doctor who said you could go back to driving yet??
Is he willing to write you a leter showing that in his opion you are still fit to drive have you been down
this road yet, also while waiting get down to the employment office and see if they can offer any retraining
courses , FORKLIFT DRIVER;perhaps, when did you take your test can you still drive a 7.5tn under the old rules
if so thats a possibility if the still are dead set on not letting you drive the big ones, how about working in the office its self
you are qualified to a degree also what are the rules about shunnting on private land can you not work as a shunter
its not on the open road I am no expert perhaps , those who have worked in this dept might be able to give a better answer
Last its hard mate , hope it works out

sorry too hear that chewy i hope something turns up for you soon, you could try for office or yard/shunter jobs. i’ll maybe be joining you as i got a letter from them today saying the final decsion on me getting back on the road lies in the hands of the scottish traffic commishener so i might be joining you

I haven’t given up yet will go and see my Doctor to see if he can do anything. I phoned the cardiac rehab team at the hospital who had me in the gym for weeks before I done the treadmill test, they say they cannot believe I failed. In the letter from the DVLA it says something about appealing the decision at a magistrates court, has anybody done it or would it just be a waste of time and money?
