So when a car driver deliberately blocks a truck from overtaking that’s ok is it ? Or when they ignore your indicators and speed up rather than move into lane 3 ? I’ve had enough of it this week. Cars and bloody caravans. All stuck in lane 2 refusing to overtake anything in front of them, blocking anybody in lane 1 from getting past slower traffic. Who’s driving correctly ? I have the same right as them to pass slower stuff, so they can bloody wait if they can’t be arsed to use lane 3.
It’s about time we had a national lorry drivers strike. Then the motorways would be empty as the cars would have no petrol, so the economy would grind to a halt. Selfish ignorant ■■■■■■■■■
What people seem to forget (if they ever knew) is that we are required by law to take breaks after 4.5 hours driving. We can’t just speed up to make up lost time, unlike the cars. My run leaves me 8 minutes spare out of 4.5 hours, and if I get stuck in a queue, or behind something doing 50, that 8 minutes evaporates meaning I have to stop 30 minutes earlier. That means my second 4.5 hours is spent catching up and I don’t get where I should be on time. Maybe we should have tachos and limiters on cars, and enforce breaks for them too. I think they’d soon change their tune.
i cannot believe i am seeing people actually defend the half-hour overtaking jobs. still, given the general standard of truck driving its hardly surprising.
muckles:
If it keeps happening then more and more road will get overtaking bans on them.
that is the crux of it, these bans WILL come sooner or later. and when they do, it will be the idiots that see nothing wrong with a 10-mile, 0.01mph difference overtaking manoeuvre who are solely and utterly to blame for it. no one’s moaning about passing a tesco/asda or whatever that;s doing 50 - you can do that quite safely in less than a minute.

if you are planned to run with an 8 minute margin with todays traffic then its the planner needs his arse kicked?
Hi I thought this forum was for truck drivers not plonker car drivers to moan about truck drivers
tofer:
As bestbooties says it’s not the truck doing 56 in lane 2 that creates the problem in lane three, it’s the car driving numpty doing 58 that has come into lane three and hasn’t got the sense to speed up and very very slowly overtakes the truck and then doesn’t use the empty lane one.
This is getting worse of late, perhaps down to the recession but they sure don’t want to use the right peddle.
Get a [zb]ing move on
I do agree with the OP though, slowly but surly the overtaking ban will catch on, if only cause the powers to be don’t drive trucks…
Wonder why I don’t have much problem sharing the road with trucks when in the car

The reality of the situation has nothing to do with the perception of Joe public and thier MP.

They don’t care if you’re on a tight schedule and have hours rules to work to, or it takes ages for you to get back upto speed, basically you’re in thier way and as far as they are concerned you shouldn’t be there.

So we should all stick our heads in the sand and pretend that there isn’t a problem and act all shocked when overtaking bans come in all over the country.

I’m not planned to run with an 8 minute margin. That’s how much time I have left on an average day when I get to the MSA. If I lose those 8 minutes, obviously I’m not going to make those services and have to stop earlier. Which means roughly 30 minutes earlier. So the 2nd 4.5 is already short by 30 minutes of what I need to do. Yes I can make it, but if anything goes wrong in the 2nd 4.5 then I’d have to have another 45 minute break before I could get those 30 minutes back. All in all it would cost 45 minutes for the sake of 8 minutes. Just because of ■■■■■■■■■ who drive like they have all day, and block the road for others. Maybe if they paid attention to whats going on in front, we’d all get along better. Why anybody should need to use the brakes on a motorway is beyond me. Emergencies yes, but anything else is just lazy ignorant driving. And another thing - when did indicators get reclassified to mean “please may I pull out” ? They mean “I’m about to pull out” or “I am pulling out”. Don’t be surprised when I pull out, dickweed ! And if you’re one of those who accelerates when they see an indicator going on a truck, then OF COURSE he’s going to pull out right in front of you. You just closed the gap deliberately. You should have spotted that he would need to pull out before the indicator came on, and either moved over or adjusted your speed accordingly, not speed up in the same lane and then act surprised about it. Bring on a 5 year car test I say. Tougher than the first one too.
Its only lorry drivers that use the motorway correctly.
We drive in lane 1 and use lane 2 to overtake and then return to lane 1.
Car drivers are not happy with us being in lane 2 because they want to hog it instead. Why should cars have use of 3 lanes and lorrys have use of 1 lane?
It only adds a miniscule amount of time to their journey if they get stuck behind a lorry for a few miles
Get a [zb] life, better thing to worry about than having 120 seconds added on to your journey because of a slow lorry.
Also have you noticed car drivers don’t moan much about being stuck behind a lorry doing 40 on an A road? only 1 lane, minimal amount of places to overtake meaning they are stuck behind trucks for longer than they would be on a motorway, and also they are going 20mph slower than the speed limit instead of 14mph you would be doing on the motorway. BAN TRUCKS FROM A ROADS
Here the difference in time it takes to travel 100 miles on a motorway when you get stuck behind a lorry for 10 miles.
Normal - 1 hour 25 mins
Stuck behind lorry - 1 hour 27 mins
2 added mins
You have issues if that winds you up.

The trouble is, they do realise that, but think it applies to us too. They forget that we get it ALL DAY, and so those 2 minutes start adding up. We spend 9 or 10 hours driving, not 1, 2 or 3 like them. I don’t do marathon overtakes. If I can’t get past in 30 seconds or less, I’ll usually back off a few k and let a gap build up again, until we reach a hill or something that lets me get past in a reasonable time. If I get an idiot next to me for 5 or 6 miles trying to creep past at +1kph I’ll realise it and back off a few k. Personally, I’d be happy to stay in lane 1 all the time, but that’s not possible is it. I just want a quiet life, being abused by ignorant ■■■■■ on the road for no reason really winds me up.
Easy answer to all the skateboard drivers being held up then. Why dont you pay a nice little road toll for the pleasure of using said major trunk routes for the 2 or 3 junctions that you are on it twice a day to get to and from work. Then using the cash generated we can have a further lane built onto the carriageway thus increasing the traffic network capacity by 25-33% and allowing you to bugger off at your easily unreachable top speeds from your constant cutting up and slowing down for no apparent reason just to put your back into the axminster and bugger off while wondering why the fat barsteward in that big stinky lorry seems to be calling you names.
Rant over and ps: yes i do hate ■■■■■ in cars that moan about us as far as i am concerned your just a target
Theres all ready a trial taking place on the A14 where vehicles over 7.5 tonnes are not allowed in the second lane during peak time traffic.
but what happens when you come up to a tractor doing 20■■

all the lorrys will be in a massive queue and wont let the car drivers into lane 1 so they can get off the A14

hear hear but some muppets take you being polite and curtious as a sign of weakness and slow right down to see if you overtake then put the wellie down then starts the silly game of “im going to slow down to 30 then speed up to 57 then back down to 30 each time you go to overtake” If they had a black box voice recorder in my cab they’d think ive got turrets syndrome
The weans are on holiday up here and the roads are a delight to drive with very little congestion so I would come up with a way of getting housewives to stop taking the weans to and from school at peak times.
I drive a car like everybody else and very rarely does a lorry hold me up.
The world would be a better place if everybody relaxed a bit and stopped wanting to get everywhere at 100 miles an hour.
I can just imagine massive queues of lorries all heading down lane one effectively forcing the nervous old dears out into lane 3 to get as far away from the big bad lorry as possible and bringing the whole network to a standstill as they refuse to budge while doing 40 in the fast lane.
Then the accidents as the nutters who cant wait behind a lorry for a hundred yards start trying to nip in between them as their turn of approaches.
IMO this is a crazy idea and the mayhem that follows any implementation of this daft idea would mean it wouldn`t last long.
Letting lorries into lane 3 would be a better idea.

I need windscreen wipers on the inside sometimes
Seriously though, I’ve had to try and avoid getting too stressed. A couple of times I’ve shouted so loud at some ■■■■ that I got a severe pain in my forehead. I don’t need a stroke thanks, so I have to try and chill out a bit. Trouble is it’s not like you can look the other way and ignore it, it’s in your face and you have to take action to avoid crashes. So far the only way is to drive nights as much as possible.

If you can tell me where we could do 100 mph i would be happy. Generally when im in the car i fall into that comfy speed of about 90 kmh and put the cruise control on. Dont know why but i get giddy after 100 kmh

Most arguments of this type are probably being raged in some supermarket forum on how fast or slow people use their trolleys and who clogs up the aisle.
People are going nuts trying to squeeze 5 more minutes into their day.
To solve this its now being suggested we ban lorries from changing lanes, its the stupidest suggestion I have ever heard as apart from whats already been stated could you imagine the queues at major junctions with the amount of lorries all coming off maybe 20 or 30 at a time.
Im all for banning us changing lanes. Take the limiters off and let us use whichever we are hapiest with. Bring in undertaking so that eliminates the sunday driver with the rug on the back seat and his M&S driving gloves and while we are at it lets have the American rule about turning on a red signal. Red light and your turning left if its safe to go just go eases the traffic waiting at the junction but costs the Gubment a few million a year in lost fines.
