How long do VOSA keep the Truck.....?

Since its a legal requirement i don’t see why the truck makers don’t design trucks like VW’s.

On VW’s you put the indicator on when parked and will put light up that rear and front light on that side you select, i believe it just a small amount of power it uses to dimly illuminate the light.

Same with my motorbike, when you put the steering lock on, can turn it one further and will illuninate the back light if your parked on the street. Again just a small amount of power.

i got a £30 ticket about 12 years ago for only displaying 1 white to the front and 1 red to the rear. it has to be 2 white to front and 2 red to rear.

so how come vauxhall do this on thier cars as well then? surely its asking you to break the law? or were you driving at the time and forgot to mention that?

Since when have you needed to leave your lights on when parked in a Layby…

All vehicles MUST display parking lights when parked on a road or a lay-by on a road with a speed limit greater than 30 mph (48 km/h).

As a matter of interest the Police “truck theft hotspot” trailer left in the lay by s/bound on the 43 at Brackley was UN illuminated this morning at 0300.

Was there any sort of a seperation barrier/raised area between the layby and the main carriageway?

TBH, its a very good question, and one I will be asking the manufacturers, why do they not as standard fit over night low drain parking lights-
Good topic

Better still take this one further and not much more of a cost .

There are solar catseyes being used so why dont trailer makers incorporate this into trailers all four courners that way even if you have a normal light go out the solar one will still be enough to get you safe.
Or am I just being thick :unamused:

Please dont all rush with answering the THICK bit
