Hoveringham gravels

This one is begining to look very tired.

Photo of the wrecker in the new livery.

I took this one at the HCVS Friday Evening Rally at Thorne’s Park, Wakefield a few years ago:-

Thanks for that one rapidgem, see you like the older lorries.Spot the albions on this photo.

A better shot showing the albion more clearly.I think this one needed a starting handle.

Note the headboard,Hoveringham brick company.

During the 1970s,hoveringham gravels started a ready mix company called TOPMIX.They had a readymix plant at colwick.
The lorries were white with a picture of a spinning top on the barrell. The name of the company was formed by means of a compertition
run by hoveringham gravels via its news letter. All employees were invited to forward pertential names for the new company.Has
anyone out there got any photos or memmories,of topmix.

Hello, here are a few clippings.

CheersMarc.

Many thanks for the photo bonkey.I seem to recall the first lorries TOPMIX bought were ford D series. Also remember the
signwriter playing hell, because he painted the spinning top on the barrel and the opposing side was upside down.

Here is a photo of a tanker given to me by a friend,it also is part of the hoveringham group.Perhaps some body out there could
tell me were it was based, and what it carried.

This is the only photo i have of hoveringham skip lorries.I remember they had some DODGE forward control lorries with perkins engines.
I have seen a picture of one,but the owner was reluctant to giving me a copy.

Think this one should have been posted on another thread, however it still has HOVERINGHAM connection.

this was taken at this years cheshire run

Great picture.Heres one of our old MERCS.

Hoveringham didn’t just use road transport, BTW. I recall my Dad telling me about sea-going barges and the like, and a quick trawl on t’internet brought up this dredger, formerly named “Hoveringham V” and still in use today in Greece.

This, appropriately, was the company’s “house flag”;

Thanks for that Kevin, just thought this thread had come to an end.Dont understand what has happened to all the nottinghamshire drivers.
I recal hundreds of photos taken over the years, but seem to forget just how many drivers are no longer with us.Perhaps many photos
were destroyed, when the big T…C group took charge. There are a few pictures of Hoveringham Locos on other sites but best left to
the train enthusiasts.

Some more pics

Hello, dunno if anyone got 10 minutes to read these 2 articles.

Cheers Marc.

That is amazing, Marc ! :open_mouth: Where do you keep digging these gems up from ? :sunglasses:
If you find any relating to Tarmac, please let me know !

PS. Here’s a pic Marc posted on his excellent thread a few months back :

This was shot at Dene quarry, Cromford in 1974.
