Hoveringham gravels

I spoke to a long time driver at Hoveringhams Stowfield quarry this week. He has promised to bring me his photos. Will post when I have them.Regards Rich.

That would be fantastic mate.Always on the look out for new pictures.Still trying to find photo of hoveringham
low loader RVO 748F scammell highwayman with scammell trailer four in line.I was low loader mate whilst serving my apprenticeship, and just wish i had taken some photos.Hoveringham midlands used to contract the top soiling out
to a company called Mitcham plant hire and we used to transport their catterpillar tractors from quarry to quarry.

Just found these pictures of some old Hoveringham
lorries that I drove out of Dean aswell as the wagon and drag.

Superb photos! I don’t suppose there’s a chance of getting them bigger and clearer?

Thanks in advance.

Great to see new photos,Judging by the state of the trailer hoveringham should have sent their loading shovel drivers
to see an optition.Only joking, many thanks for posting on this thread and long may you continue.

Nice pics Cliff, I THOUGHT that the AEC was at at Stanage and I guess you went that way to miss out the Slack! You would know Bob King and Rod Gill, and for five years I drove a six wheeler for Eric Gough. Dene quarry is rumoured to be closing I’m afraid.

Hi Nigel i put it on for him as its easier for him to find the thread

Fully understand, cant beat a good shortcut.

this was the first lorry i drove DAT415T i was told it belonged to hoveringham and came from hull peter greggains the firm i drove for also bought DAT414T this lorry was later stolen from our yard in maryport ■■■■■■■

Thanks for that,as i have said before i worked for hoveringham midlannd division and am still intrigued at the amount
of quarries hoveringham gravel owned. The problem is i tend to forget how many years ago it was,and its now getting
that not many of the old drivers are still alive.M any thanks for your input.

Thank You for that, here’s a picture taken recently, showing the old Invicta Bridge Engineering (Previously Hoveringham Engineering Ltd) building, now standing empty again…photo taken from the old Hoveringham Works yard, weighbridge to the right looking towards the road…

Hello and welcome to this thread INVICTA.
Whilst working at hoveringham in the mobile plant workshop i remember
invicta bridge was joined onto our workshop. We both operated overhead cranes and the dividing wall would often
shake as the cranes reached the end stops.A lot of invictus personnel shared our canteen facilities, and many of the
staff from newark shared our works bus.My father in law worked in invictas workshop as a spray painter after it was
taken over by scammell trailers.Shame he never took photos,as i’m sure not many exist of scammell trailers being
manufactured at hoveringham.Do you have any old work mates, who might have any as it would compliment this
thread,Many thanks nigel.

Been over that bridge a few times. Went in with a 6 wheeler for gravel one day, guessed a good load and weighed 25.50 on the weighbridge, operator puts the crossed fingers signal up for half a ton, ■■■■, back under the bin for another half ton. Dropped back on the plate at 25.80 to see him getting excited, he thought that I was a 25 ton gross instead of 26 and was expecting me to shovel half a ton off instead of putting more on ha ha!

Pete.

Hi, I just fount this picture for sale on ebay, I thought i’d put it on here as i know a few of you will be interested. The item number is 170702672076 if anyone is interested in buying it.

Great picture that, I wonder where it was taken? The body type seems different to the ‘Carrimore’ bodies that the S80s had this way on.

Shouldn’t it be in the Tarmac thread though?

Yeah sorry I wasn’t sure if there was a Tarmac thread.

BonkeyDollocks:
Pretty sure this is an ex Hoveringham Stone tipper what with the black insulated body and colour scheme of the cab.

This is an ex Hoveringham Wastecontroll Rollonoff, new to Maidenhead/Bray depot, pictured here when just repainted into Biffa colours after Biffa bought Wastcontroll from Tarmac.
