Hoveringham gravels

Looks like he eats to many yorkie bars.

hoveringham did nt seem to run their equipment into the ground like many tipper operators at the time did.I remember many of their tippers finding new owners in the leicestershire quarries near where I grew up.I think one eight wheel foden found its way into the largely second hand fleet of Bill Isaacs a coalville Leicester tipper operator

This is the only photo of an ex hoveringham eight wheeler in my collection. It would be nice to find ex hoveringham vehicles
in other liveries.

Heres a photo of my dad with his new dodge in the fifties.

It was fitted with a perkins engine, and it had an eaton back axle.Just as portraid in the hell drivers film,it was a flyer.

Hi Nigelhuntā€¦Started my working life on those Dodge trucks in 1962 as an apprentice mechanic for a tipper firm in manchester, they were fitted with the Perkins P6 engine and had the vacuum eaton 2 speed axle shift on them. Some models had the Perkins 6.354 engine fitted before the model was replaced by the D308 series LAD cabbed Dodge.Good old days.

Hi Ivā€™e managed to get hold of this photo. The Albion Iā€™am 90% certain was new to Hoveringhams. It sat here until 1987 then come along the gas axe.
Sadly the chap who drove her passed away 3 weeks ago. He may of confirmed what iā€™am thinking.

John

This is a photo of one of the first lorries hoveringham owned,i think its a bedford.Perhaps someone out there could tell me.

This is a similar cab

Hi Nigel,
Is that lorry left hand drive,as a lot of firms had American lorries after the war. Some of the older guys on here will probably know more.
Cheers Dave.

Its definitely a left hand driveā€¦could even be european thoughā€¦never seen one like this even in the 50 s when I was a kid

LHD? How come that the screen wiper is on the right then?
I have seen a similar cab front on a coach, canā€™t recall where though!

Pete.

Well spotted windrushā€”could it be an early Thornycroft?

that bedford thing. Iā€™ve got a photo of a refuse truck and it has that front its made into a crew cab. Iā€™am not at home at the moment but iā€™ll look it out next week.
John

I knew Iā€™d seen it somewhere this is from an article in Classic and Vintage Commercials December 2008 called Cab Rank by Peter Davies about Bedford cabs.

Flatman thats brilliant, showed that picture of mine to a retired truck driver and he swore bedfords never had that type of cab.
if i can find it i have a photo of a fleet of old hoveringham lorries in 1958,with the drivers stood in front of them.
Most of the lorries are of the bedford in question, but their is a few old fordsons aswell.I will post as soon as i find it.
Thanks to all members for keeping this thread alive,as it has become an obsetion of mine to find as many photos still in
existance as possible.Whilst working at hoveringham i remember many photos being taken for publicity, only wish i had
asked for coppies before .

After searching for many hours, managed to find the photo as promised.

Whilst searching i found a photo of the wrecker after tarmac had finished with it.As you can see it was sold to a company in nottingham.
Does anyone have any info,as i dont even know where this photo came from.

Can anybody give any information on this ex hoveringham foden prior to its recent ownership at pearsons.I seem to think it was one
featured in an old heritage commercial mag leaving a collery in yorkshire. The photo featured in the mag showed three fodens in convoy.

Not far off, one of the same batch, the one behind might be it.
