HOS

I have looked on the US Gov site for HOS and I can’t see anything that says you can work for 10 hrs a day, everyday no matter what time of day you start or finish.
I have asked 3 Canadian drivers with us that have many years experience running US, quoting ‘Brentanna’s’ 7pm-5am working day and they all say the same thing, it’s illegal.
If it was 70hrs/7days, obviously you could.

What I said was you can work 10 hr days without a need for reset. I never said 10hrs a day I said you can work 10 hr days without a reset. I wish people would start reading what is written, and if they dont understand get clarification.

WTF you need to lay off those magic mushrooms because they are getting you all confused. or is your sole purpose on here to do everybodys head in?

I dont see anything confusing in what I said. You can work 10 hour days and never have to do a reset. I also explained in order to do that you have to shift your time. So you may end up doing a double off at the end. A double off is not a reset, it is 28 hrs. It gives you more actual on duty hours. Like I said you need to actually read what is written if you dont understand ask for clarification. I am sure if tomorrow at coffee if I explain it to the the girls they will get it straight off.

If you work 70hrs in 7 days and then have a double off of 28hrs, does that not take you into your 9th day?. The original thign was you can’t work more than 70hrs in 8days no matter how much time you have off or how you interpret the rules, you can’t work over 70hrs in 8days. if you do then you are nicked and the whole point in having a 28hr off and just missing out on having a full reset is stupid and would work against you.

You are forgetting that your start time for your 8 days doesnt have to be at 8am in the morning. So when you get to the end your double off will allow you to enter the 1st day of your next 8. without a need for a reset.

What your saying is thats your 9th day , if you was going to do that why you would take a 28hr break and not have a 34hr reset is beggars belief and you havn’t got what everybody was going on about that you can’t do more than 70hrs in 8days, having all this double off nonsense puts you onto the 9th day. So what everybody said originally is correct what your saying is also correct but a daft way of doing it.

I get what your saying but if your gonna have 28 you must always wait and have 34 or even 36, that way your fresh as a daisy again and alot less brainpower is needed to keep you legal.

So what everybody said originally is correct what your saying is also correct

so there is no arguement then… :unamused:

both are correct, while one or the other may not be ideal… it is legal

simple question can you do both/either and be legal? if yes that answers the question and its a non issue.

Wether you should/want /if it is practictable to is a totally different question surely

Actually it is no different than when you defer off duty time in Canada.

Rikki don’t get her started on something else its taken days to get this far.

Technically they are both legal but you’d be mad to do the 28hour one. just to take you into your ninth day just to get your first day back, then it starts to get complicated.

From an earlier thread you mentioned working for Gains transport, i used to work for a firm next door called Firmheath that had 16tonner seddons used to do alot of the same work as Gains.

Either way is legal you can sit out your reset or you can time shift and get the 6 extra hours.

I remember Firmheath… tin of Deluxe was the paint scheme :grimacing: was often on A E Drains work (timber) with you guys, then when I ended up on Commercial Plywood (Comply) out of Peckham the transport manager Dave Gordon (who also came from Gains) had you lot in all the time … its a small world

Thats them a tin of gloss paint and a brush, a roller if you was really lucky! It was early to mid 80’s when i was there. weren’t there long the guvnor Fred was a diamond.

About the same time as me then… Mid 80’s , before Parker Packing folded and Albert Fisher moved in !!, had Ashphaltic (spelling?) next door who had a very smart 16 tonne Leyland (Roadtrain?) certainly the T45 cab on it… was jealous every time I took the Bedford KM (then TL) out of our gate and saw it

Bloody hell small world, our paths probably crossed somewhere!

Dunno where you lived, But I used to live on Evelyn Street near the canal bridge,(where the Strawberry place was just up from Drains yard) when I went to COMPLY I used to park the truck in the deserted petrol station opposite the Black Horse Pub rather than run it into Peckham… its now a Kentucky fried chicken outlet (the garage not the pub)

Depends… still nervously trying to find out if I owe him a pint or not
and I doubt if Dave will agree with me on a lot of things, but at least I hope he now knows I have some experience at the sharp end and the guy running this circus does have some knowledge of the industry and not just sitting behind a desk…

Everybody owes me a pint, and your right about this being a circus lots of animals and a few clowns thrown in.

Rikki, Les was doing the Sarsons for Gains when I was doing it for Falcons, that was good old fashioned transport, I doubt any of the lads around us then would be in need of a friend or foe button :open_mouth:

As for HOS rules, it’s simple, I think Brentanna’s method may work, but why make it all so complicated? We’re our own worst enemy in this industry, working like that is a prime example, far better to drive 11, spread it over 13 or 14 so you get time for a relaxed lunch and then have 10 or 11 off each night, that way you can start at the same time everyday and not disrupt Circadian Rythyms and all that stuff, as an added bonus you run out of hours on day 6 at the latest so you get at least 36hrs off before starting all over again.

Running out of the middle of the country as we do allows us to reach all four corners of North America and get back within 70hrs, so what’s the point of running every day without a break? that doesn’t leave a lot of time to have a life does it :bulb:
