but what always made me laugh was when that German woman drove a transit van (on top gear) round the circuit passing all the amatuers at speed making them look a little foolish.
Not so funny are the number of casualties and fatalities.
What a surprise loads of repeated track time to the point of knowing the lines through all the corners with her eyes closed. But sooner or later mixing speed and bends anywhere let alone the Green Hell claims even the best sometimes. You know like Mike Hawthorne.
Meanwhile it all depends on your definition of ‘speed’ and why kill yourself doing 90 mph in the wrong place at the wrong time on a silly twisty road only fit for go karts when you can or at least could run at even 200 mph + and live to tell the tale.Better days indeed.

To be fair what’s needed is more along the lines of the authorities intend to ‘go back’ to a more ‘pragmatic’ approach to speed ‘enforcement’.Which reflects French distances and road and traffic conditions.Rather than unrealistic one size fits all political aims.Including the arguable deliberate confusion of drink driving casualty figures with speed related ones used as an instrument to increase revenues from innocent motorists.
