Historic Test Data

Rog I dont know whether there is an up to date list but it might be worth checking the current percentage pass against these figures.

–Test category in %
–1994-95 --------1995-96
Car 46.9 -----------------------45.7
LGV 47.5 ----------------------47.0
PCV 50.0 ----------------------49.3

It probably proves nothing, except that I am bored.

I would be interested in the new pass fail rates on lgv and psv as well.
The car tests have been the same or there abouts for the last 30 years 45% or something.

Conspiracy

As I have said before - they are meaningless figures
What class of LGV
First or sixth time pass

Hi Guys especially you Wheel nut!

They did publish the figures on the DSA website up till recently but for some reason they have taken them off? Also we had an out of work driving instructor (non lgv)temping at our place today and i asked about pass rates ect and he said that the DSA “encourage” the examiners to maintain a national average percentage on they’re pass/fail rates and remembering off the top of my head they were roughly the same throughout the country giving or taking the less populated areas where they had a slighly higher percentage of passes, if you look on the DVTA (NI DSA equivalent)website they still publish theirs. If your really bored…and i do mean bored…have a little nose around the driving examiners forum PCS i think its called, and draw your own conclusions, never thought i would say this, but i feel quite sorry for them as they seem to get a rough deal. But weather these figures mean anything in the real world is a different matter entirely.

It just came up in another artice I was looking at. there were also the pass percentages for each HGV testing centre with seperation between PCV and LGV, I take Rog;s point about how many passes, which classes etc and it being meaningless.

I couldnt post the LGV centre data as it is in CSV and Im not that clever to show it on here :arrow_right:

I do keep an eye on the DSA and examiners news, only because my landlady is a DSA instructor and did the examiner training too. She stayed freelance as she spits on the floor if you mention the DSA to her :stuck_out_tongue:

I only keep an eye on it all because if she isn’t making any money, my rent goes up

This letter I received from DSA may be of interest to some.

Thank you for your correspondence of 24 July 2008 in relation to DSA pass rates.

I can confirm that there are currently no pass rates on the system as we are in the process of adding the most up to date information to the website. In the meantime if you would like the pass rates for individual test centres please do not hesitate to contact us again.

The national pass rate for LGV testing is — 46.3%

The national pass rate for PCV testing is — 50.4%

At the moment we are unable to supply information for individual pass rates for LGV instructors. This is because our method for collecting the information is not yet transferable for the LGV test as LGV/PCV instructors only sign up for a voluntary register. As part of a current consultation the agency is looking at making the LGV instructor register mandatory for all instructors. This would enable better data capture and ensure better service for both candidates and business customers.

I hope this information is of use to you.

The national pass rate for LGV testing is — 46.3%

I can give you my own rates for C (13 tonne box with straight 6 gearbox) during the period Jan to Nov 2005
First time 51%
Second time 27%
The rest ( third, fourth & did not bother again) 22%

This ones for ROG?

I do remember someone doing their 5th C test in 2005 and then not coming back for any more - it was one of those cases where they were never going to do it through a combination of nerves and lack of ability.

So sad, :frowning:

Remember Maureen on ‘Learner Drivers’ :unamused: - although she did pass… eventually :exclamation:

The guy who instructed me for my cat C said he had a farmer that took his test 9 times before passing. Apparently the guy was good with the gears but his steering was lousy - always fiddling with the steering as if he were driving a tractor in a field!

I’d give it four attempts and if having still not passed, go away and do some serious thinking or learning the fundamentals of driving.
