HGV to PCV

Sorry if this isn’t appropriate or in the wrong place admin please move if needs be…

I have a class 1 with 35 hrs DCPC, as the title suggests I am also wanting to do my PCV licence now.

I have a few queries which I can’t find clear answers to. Do I need another medical? Is their a different theory/hazard test? As I hold a c+e does this mean I have D as a provisional? I don’t have to do any more DCPC training as part of my training?

Think that’s covered it but if any of you helpful chaps can give further insight then thank you in advance.

Thanks again! Paul

Qs
Do you have a pre 1997 car licence ?
Do you have D provisional on your licence ?

A couple of answers…
If you ticked the D category on your application and it shows on your licence, then you have a provisional entitlement.
You don’t need another medical, but in time all your renewals will be in sync.
The theory, hazard perception and driving test are all different.
But, when you pass PCV, you can can drive a coach with a big trailer as you already have the +E bit.
Cheers

I currently hold a class1 and PCV licence… I might be wrong, but I think that you might have to take another medical for the pcv… when a driver already holds both licences and a medical is due then just the one medical will cover both pcv and LGV as long as they are renewed at the same time.

I say this because a few years ago my licences were due for renewal and I missed ticking the box to include my pcv licence, as a result I received my renewed LGV licence but with the pcv entitlement not validated, when I contacted the relevant dept to explain my error they said I would need to resend another application and also another completed medical form.

It was a few years ago and the system might be different now.

ps… your dqc covers both licences.

Hello! I’m think I have it as provisional as I’ve just looked at my licence on line and says under the provisional bit Got D.

No I past after '97

I took my PCV test in Jan 2032 already holding my C&E. You will have to do the haz perception/theory tests but as part of your PCV training you will gain your full CPC. I didnt need to do anything with regards to my medical.

No medical needed as the current one covers it

Modules needed
1a theory
1b HPT
2 initial PCV dcpc theory
3 practical road drive/reverse
4 practical PCV dcpc

Once passed the PCV gets added to the new DQC with the same current expiry date you have on it

Did it have a flux capacitor

Thanks for help chaps. Messaged a couple of places about training cost and for further info etc

Also, you can take it in an automatic as C is a higher graded licence so PCV will automatically be manual.

would also get manual PCV if car is manual

There are no TEFLON drivers now a days.I dont think that its right that a new driver could be given a truck or bus with a splitter or range change and no training in the use of.

So all of us who learnt years ago on a straight 6 or those who learnt on a slap over then went onto to drive a range change/splitter are deemed not to be competent by your reckoning
