Do these have the lane guidance on them? (Ala TomTom.)
Looking at a new sat nav for the wife, but she’s hopeless when it comes to motorways, and unless the screen shows her that she needs to come off at a junction with an arrow on the correct lane, she would end up somewhere where she shouldn’t be.
Ken.
My wife has exactly the same problem, and lane guidance on the Garmin she uses makes little difference, M42/M6/A446 junction, which is one she uses now and again for NEC and National Motorcycle Museum events is one she ■■■■■ up on every single time, i can’t suss out how to help either.
Her problem IMO is that she’s always rushing even when she doesn’t need to which is no good when you don’t know whcih lane you need, a natural city driver and very very good at nipping through city traffic where i’m hopeless in a car.

Yeah I’ve got a Tomtom as well (an Go 820 Live I think the model number is), but even with the micro SD slot, they don’t do truck software for it,
Oh yes they do.
Ken.
Oh really!?! I’ve been hunting high and low, on the TT forums, and found nothing.

Please enlighten me!
Tachograph has pointed you in the right direction, although I find that some of the mods on Navitotal a bit up their own arse if your a newbie, as they can be a little unhelpful, but once you’ve mastered the art of obtaining your own maps, then you won’t need their help anyhow.
Do beware though, that some of the newer TT systems can’t be hacked…yet. Check for compatibility. I guess that’s why TT are now offering free lifetime updates to stop people hacking their systems.
Then once you’ve done that, nip over to pocketgpsworld.com/ and buy their speed camera database on a monthly basis. And if your lucky enough to spot and submit a new camera before anyone else, then they give you 12 months free. (Unless your like me and have it for life as I’m a prolific compulsive spotter and have been for years. )

Nice one, thanks to the both of you. I shall have to register and have a nosey round as it would be useful to have it on the TT if it works (I’ve got a 12 month old Go 820 Live).
My other one arrived the other day (the one that was originally mentioned by Harry). For £51 it works a treat, stick all your dimensions in and away you go. Not as pretty as the TT display, but for that money I’m not complaining at all!

Yes, I have ordered one of these as well and should arrive this week. Don’t really like satnavs, very much a map man, but didn’t mind spending this sort of money to give it a try.
I bought one from the Glasgow seller on ebay.I think its a great bit of kit.I use in conjunction with a map, there are lots of settings to play with.Mine bongs when I go over speed limits and there is good motorway lane guidance.

I don’t know how the Garmin lane guidance compares with the TomTom offering, but the latter is often not very good, or even downright wrong - especially on some of the bigger/more complex junctions (which is a shame, because they are the ones where people are likely to need the guidance…).
Another place the TomTom guidance falls down is e.g. the A5/M69 roundabout at Hinckley (I am sure there are others - this is just one I have noticed). If you approach this roundabout on the A5 (North or South) on a route that should have you continuing on the A5, the voice directions will tell you to take the exit “Towards Leicester” (when travelling South) or “Towards Coventry” (when travelling North). Neither of those places are mentioned on the signboards for the A5 exits, and following those directions (onto the M69) will have you going in the wrong direction.
A guy who works on our agency, saw my TT 5150 and liked it, but was put off by the price at circa £300. When I told him about the Chinese variety, and how little they cost, he asked me to look into them, with a view to buying him one, and he will give me the cash. (He doesn’t have an E.Bay account.)
Looked at a lot of them on the Bay, and not many of them come with free updates for life, like Harry’s, so that helped to swing the deal as well, but I believe they can be updated anyhow via the aforementioned Navitotal, but as I need the updates to be as easy as possible for this guy, and they are much of a muchness on price, I plumped for this one.
When it comes, I’ll try it for a couple of days against my TT, and see how it gets on.
Would have been nice if they would support the PGPSW speedcams, as I would have one in a shot if they did, but I would be interested in which speedcam database they use if anyone knows.
Snooper S7000 pro routing is crap especially in london doesnt pre warn you about toll roads .nokia does the maps for snooper hense the difference in bridge heights nokia maps does it in feet where snooper does it in metres so can cause problems in the.actuall height of the.bridge . Firmware and software problems crashing and biggest problem is the description of the route is a joke they dont name the A road they name the actual road name what good is that as you can’t check it agsinst a map as u dont know the name of the road as all roads in maps are A or B roads .customer service is fair I have a s7000pro fully updated its a bag of ■■■■ works great over the water but ■■■■ in the uk .example m6 north at jc 7 it says take the exit when u actually want 7a ? Hense its going on ebay pile of ■■■■
The tomtom trucks well all tomtoms lose signal very easily in london or anywhere where theres lots of tall buildings and especially tunnels the routing is excellent and easy to understand prob the easiest to understand out of all satnavs .WITH ALL THIS TECHNOLOGY YOU WOULD THINK THEY COULD MAKE A DECENT TRUCK SAT NAV …I only use the sat nav in the final third of the route getting u in is one of the hardest I find trying tonuse the A2Z almost impossible when trying to negotiate inner london like inside the A205 . Snooper u will miss all bridged but will send u down a 7.5mgw weight limit to avoid the bridge pmsl . And in london u get alot is no route possible as it cannot work out ss most of the weight limits are timed the only way round it using snooper is to tske it out of truck mode and put it into car mode pmsl snooper most of the boys had them now they have sold them lol they ok until u start going into large citys with weight limits totally useless even the tv is crap
Took mine to france last week then on into germany, chec republic never let me down once.bridge heights seemed to work ,it did warn me but wether they are right or not I don’t know .
I can now give a two week report for my £50 sat nav.
Absolutely brilliant, cannot fault it at all. I thought I would check through all of the maps straight away as I did not know how long it may have been sat on a shelf somewhere, but they were all up to date, so I stuck in the details of the lorry that I would be driving and I went for a spin in the car. Weight limits, height limits, all spot on and diverted me.
Took the plunge and stuck it in the lorry, along side my TT (just to be safe), and didn’t miss a beat. Not quite as smooth as the TT for animation transitions, but routing was great. Admittedly I wasn’t doing anything in towns and having to navigate to specific streets, but took me through towns fine. I dropped a point on the map where I was loading in the middle of nowhere (as we were moving around to various places loading sugar beet) and took me to the places fine each time (my local knowledge of East Anglia is poor and still growing, so kept it on to be sure).
Other little down point for the particular one I bought is that it does not have Bluetooth. I thought I had chosen one with it, but reading through the item description again on eBay it does not. Oh well, jumped a little too soon with that one… But didn’t really matter in the end as the lorry I was then given has Bluetooth in it.
As for the comment above about losing signal all the time, I’m now on my third TT (upgrades, bigger maps etc., not changing because of being rubbish), I can honestly say that I have never had one drop out on signal in towns. Where I put the sat nav in my current car means that it can take a while to pick up a signal (I put it on the lower part of the dash so that I don’t leave a nice ring in the wind screen), but never had it drop signal.

My boss has given me a tomtom xxl because my tomtom truck stopped working. Can anyone tell me if i can buy a sd card from tomtom with truck on it and just plug it into the xxl
Not possible i am afraid due to limitations on the size of memory in an XXL…it is possible to install a cut down version of the tomtom application and add the map to make it less than 2gb but its not an easy fix…also you need to know where to get these things and they aint official
I managed to get this one working
How did u get the tomtom xxl
To take the truck software people tell me u can’t did it. Thanks gordon
I just got one of these pnavi satnavs. Used it for 3 days so far on roads im familiar with low bridges. They do avoid the low bridges and widths you programed into it. As for map updates. I did mine slso. Abit long winded but all is good. New A46 now appears
