I run a small fleet of trucks and one of the vehicles was sorn off the road with 2 months vehicle tax left to run (£1200.00 a year). I was expecting a 2 month rebate = £200.00 less administration costs I actually received £93.33. This was contested with (■■■■ Turpin) DVLA who informed me part of which is vehicle tax (£560.00) and the other is the HGV Levy (£640.00) and the HGV Levy is not payable for the last 2 months of 12 months vehicle tax.
Looking further into this Johnny foreigner receives a full refund of the HGV Levy for the months their vehicle is not used in the UK furthermore I have just received a vehicle tax reminder for 1 of my other vehicles and nowhere does it state on this form any information regarding the HGV Levy. The HGV Levy was also applied by an acquaintance of mine from the Netherlands and for a 44t 3x3 artic for a month equated to £64.00 Discrimination and misleading information towards the UK Haulage Industry.
If you are selling your vehicle sell it in the last month of the vehicle tax so as not to give these parasites any extra revenue.

It works the same way for foreigners… refunds are calculated on the 10 months charged (your mate’s annual levy is 640 and he would not get refund for last two months either)…
After 30yrs driving artics on our so called roads and 10yrs in business is this all the response I achieve!!!
Lets do some mathematics: UK haulier pays 6mths vehicle tax at £664.00x2=£1328.00. 12mths vehicle tax at £1200.00.
Johnny pays vehicle tax at £600.00 per 6mths and £1000.00 per year.
UK haulier pays £128.00 over two 6mth periods but yet when you get a refund it equates too £100.00 per month.
Johnny gets full refund for every month owing ie 4mths truck use in the UK 2mth refund=£200.00.
Is this not disproportionate in our (alleged) democracy.
Johnny foreigner has not paid vehicle tax since it was introduced and yet us in the UK are again penalised.
My first post (ever) was to let all you Owner drivers and Fleet operators aware of another stealth tax on our industry.
