HGV Jobs Cantley Norfolk

Does any one have any information about the HGV Jobs being advertised for Cantley Norfolk, i think its doing the sugar beet run to and from the sugar factory at Cantley.
TRG are the recruitment company and apparantly the process is a half day in the class room for assesment
( WHAT DOES THAT CONSIST OFF  )

As its a well publicised vacancy  i would imagine their are loads of drivers at each assessment :frowning: and they have the pick of the bunch  but any one with any first hand information about the process would be appreciated.

Oh yeh i have read the advert therecruitgroup.com but i am looking for additional info from any one with first hand experience of the process. Ta

If it is the sugar beet job, which it probably will be, the assessment will consist of being taught how to keep your right foot flat to the floor whilst negotiating tight country lanes and also to stay within 1 foot of the wagon in fronts back lights. After a short refreshment break you will then be shown how to master the art of overtaking a wagon on a blind corner before cutting in within an inch of their front bumper. Hope this helps!

At the end of it you will classed as a ‘so called professional driver’ who ‘thinks of the children’ when overtaking on blind corners

I doubt it’s going to be a job of bringing the beet into the factory. That’s pleasure is left to the specialists that Xfmatt wrote about.

I believe Turners used to take the processed sugar out of the factory, don’t know if they are still doing so, but I reckon it will be for that.

As far as i know it’s Suttons who have the major sugar contract, they took over the original British Sugar fleet some years ago. An old friend of mine has half a dozen units on permanent contract to them still out of Cantley, Newark & Bury St Edmunds.
Iirc Turners are ad hoc suppliers to their transport arm although doubtless someone will know different.

Part of the assessment will be not to bother too much about overloading the trailer so half the load falls all over the road.

RocketMan,

Its NOT bringing beet to the factory.

TRG run the majority of tankers, presumably to/from Felixstowe.

Turners still have tankers from Cantley, they mainly run to Milton Keynes (I think) and Wakefield.

I’m not in the business but do live very close to the factory.

TRG have only been in there since the summer.

Beet is run by a variety of local companies

Edit: For bad Speeeling.

It’s probably a typical Norfolk non-job, every Jobcentre and agency has them.

Trg are an agency, that have the contract for inter factory movements, mainly cantly to bardney, they have their own men tipping the tanks at bardney, it’s a 24- 7 job while the campaign is on.
TRG have put their own trucks in (premium’s) they come into newark to pick empty’s up and drop loaded tanks for us.

Sutton’s have the British sugar contract, Turner’s load out of all British sugar factories but for their own customers not British sugar’s Trg are only inter factory.

Ok Thanks for all the info, Negative and positive.

Cheers… Happy Trucking

About 3 years ago, British Sugar were talking about bringing cane sugar into Cantley (containers), it was believed that the boxes would have come through Gt Yarmouth, though as the outer harbour is not being used for that sort of movement at the moment, I suspect that they’ll be ex FXT or other. But as far as I know, British Sugar carried on with there development, and if this is the case, then your enquirery could be for the movement of said containers. This will be an all year round operation, much to the annoyance of the locals, who as usual dont like it in there back yards.

Hope this helps

And how to not be overloaded when you arrive at the weighbridge, du you’ll have to use 2 permits, and your boss will get the right monk

The outer harbour now has no facilities for handling any containers any longer, the brand new unused box cranes have been flogged off cheap to somewhere else. Only used for windfarm projects which is another waste of bloody money

The one thing that has not been mentioned is how to leave a generous coating of mud on the road.

British sugar built a “trial” plant at newark to process cane sugar, it came from the docks in bulkers not containers, it was said if it was a success they would build a larger plant at cantley which would be supplied by containers, but as far as i know they haven’t even started building it at cantley yet

Nope, nothing built as yet. The Outer Harbour has now “changed roles” and is looking to the wind farms for its business.

Well i thought i would give you all an update for what its worth, TRG are a complete arse of a company, Today me and 8 other guys turn up for an induction, we were all told by TRG that it was 5 hrs  at the most starting at 09:00. They are so unorganised we didn’t get to the class room till 09:40, they left us standing around out side the security gate for about an hour, and boy was it cold, :unamused: not a good start.
Some of the other guys had taken a day of from their perm jobs for this induction but as the day went on it became apparent that TRG only want you to be available when they want you to work :imp: ■■ Some of the guys were told it was a perm job  , some told it was being operated on a fixed contract  , some were told they would be doing a 4 on 4 off rota  and some were told it was days only, :sunglasses: when really its mainly nights :imp: .
Their own propaganda says they will supply free CPC training  but apparently no one gets that perk, again they quote an hr rate of £15 :stuck_out_tongue: but again no one gets that, All that attended today were told they would be inducted and have a driving assessment, HA what fools we were to believe that, no one got a driving assessment as the induction went on till 16:45. What a complete load of ■■■■ wits running TRG.
Their was a Suttons guy their ( TRG are subbing thier work from Suttons who have the main contract ) who was more on the ball, :bulb: he straightened every one up when he said TRG had put 58 people :astonished: through the induction in three weeks for 15 placements :imp: ■■? “what the hell is going on here then” one guy asked ? TRG just cant keep the staff because they promise one thing and deliver something completely different, :open_mouth: promise day shifts when their are only night shifts, promise driving up the road but their are only shunting jobs  which all, i have to say are on an irregular basis. :imp:
Apparently our driving assessments will be done later this week ■■? :imp: i would imagine after they have been through the reems and reems of paper work we all had to fill out today :exclamation: :exclamation: and the selected few will be called of which we all said we would tell them to poke it as they wouldn’t commit to the pay or hours ? what kind of out fit are these cowboys ? Yeeeeee Haaaaa… :stuck_out_tongue:
My Advice if your thinking this sounds like a good job think again,( therecruitgroup.com/hgv-driv … bs-norfolk ) things this good are normally to good to be true :bulb: , you get nothing for nothing.
