HGV driver ploughs through traffic on roundabout

I think he means the potato bulker that was in lane 1. I remember when this happened. This is a sobering reminder.

+1
I’m just glad I’m back on nights on a set run down south

Come on lads, it wasnt a mistake, he just thought, F this I’m going. I’ve done it myself but I call a spade a spade.

The neatest part of all this dashcam software lark is if it is the same package that allows one to put captions into the vid itself… There are endless possibilities for some serious laughter here if you think about it! :bulb:

Exactly Silver Surfer.I am glad some realises the reality. It was blatant and totally out of order. We all know the difficulty of getting a loaded wagon onto a busy roundabout but that type of driving is totally uncalled for.
It amazes me how many think it was a mistake and how some admit to doing the same.
No wonder we get a bad name.

I had just finished my night shift when I sent the original post, tiredness is my excuse! :grimacing:

Not really ploughed through has he cut them up maybe

There is a busy junction close to where I start work, but at least it has traffic lights on it otherwise there would be times that most the drivers pulling out from the exit I would, would do that and risk collisions.

Likewise I know some drivers, whether in their own cars or larger vehicles that will just pull out and expect other drivers to stop if they have been waiting a while, and perhaps this is a good reason why traffic lights on large roundabouts should be there…

The A50/A38 Toyota Island is a case in question, if the traffic lights are not working, you can sit there for up to 20 minutes, especially at shift change or in rush hour. It is too big, and cars and vans are probably doing 50 or 60mph and pulling out with a loaded lorry is next to impossible. I use this example as it is the closest one to my home, and is also on my weekly route to hospital.

The rule of the road in Norfolk is that cars have priority over all other traffic, when overtaking lorries then double white lines can be crossed, speed limit can be exceeded to pass a lorry. Lorries must give way to cars entering roundabouts and the list goes on and on.

weeto:
Although you are right about the Highway Code rule but, there is another that is ignored by other road users a lot, which is, give way to large or slow moving vehicles! Perhaps the lorry driver thought he was in the right.
But like most have said, sometimes you just gotta go!

Yep, I agree and I have often let buses/lorries past when I can see they’re trying to get past and when it’s safe to do so. But in my view, I thought this was a little bit too close, which caused for both cars to brake harder than usual.

hitch:
Trailer looked foreign ish
was it LHD
maybe walking floor though just wondered

No, it has a UK plate.

After reading the title, I was expecting something more. Something for the CSI to really get their teeth into.

OP, you disapoint.

Which dash-cam do you use?

lol, sorry to disappoint you.

I’m using an old system - MIniDVR HD with bullet camera - does the job well for me.

LIBERTY_GUY:
You can buy those dash cams with all the kit for less than £20 on Fleabay nowadays.

The quality of the recoding makes me think it’s not a £20 camera which is why I asked.

Yeah, it’s full & real HD at 1080 @ 30fps. Think it cost me £200 or so (it was the latest camera back then)

Now we get loads of cheapo ebay clones where it says “HD” when it’s not, just upscaled to HD size but gives poor quality.

bazza123:
If I can be very pedantic its the Harford Bridge roundabout rather than Postwick

Haha, picky. Yes, you’re right.

I’ve just noticed the date on the video 17/10/2013, why have you decided to ask about this five months after the event ?

Didn’t have the chance to edit the video, only uploaded a few days ago when I came across this video on my backup HDD.

I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to whoever replied in this thread - it was an interesting discussion and I am very grateful for you to share your knowledge & comments on here.

Thank you.

There’s an island near me that only has lights coming from certain roads and the one without lights has a substantial queue on it at peak times. It’s extremely difficult to pull out in a truck coz as soon as the lights go red on the approach road immediately to the right of you they go green on the roundabout and the cars drivers floor it so hard that they just create one endless queue of traffic behind the vehicles coming from the other approach road.

Just leaving a gap between the red and green would help, wouldn’t necessarily need a new set of lights. At peak times you have to pull out on people although I do think what this driver did was over the top. Causing people to back off a bit is one thing but brake slamming is quite another.
