Hi lads. Can anyone help me?
I passed my class 2 licence in 2005, however when I reached 45 in 2012 I didn’t take the medical for various reasons ie money was tight and I was working in a non driving job. From what I’ve read on here its just a matter of taking the medical and sending it off to the DVLA, however I’ve recently just had my licence back from the DVLA after passing my motorcycle test and noticed where it gives my entitlements on the back of the plastic part, it says > C … …
Is this normal? Will they still have my cat C on their records?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ROG` will be along shortly to explain
I did a similar thing over a longer period, sent off the medical and got all categories back so it shouldn’t be a problem.
your licence shows the category’s your entitled to drive .
as your not entitled to drive cat C it wont show , but it should be re installed with a medical.
Without a current D4 medical all LGV & PCV entitlements which were gained by passing a DSA test are dormant
Dormant entitlements will not show on a licence
Dormant entitlements will be re-instated on passing a D4 medical
Pre 1997 entitlements are not subject to a D4 medical until age 70

I expanded on what you said
Thanks for all the help lads, much appreciated.
Hi lads. I got in touch with the DVLA and they’ve told me I need to fill in a D2 form (application for lorry, bus or minibus driving licence) and get the medical done (D4) to have my lorry entitlement put back on my licence.
Does anyone know what box I need to tick in section 1 of the D2 form? There’s quite a few options but none seem to fit in with what I require.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’m being laid off from my job in March and looking to get back out on the road again.
Thanks again, Dai.

As far as I can remember there is a box to tick to ‘Renew My Licence’ and that would be the one for you as that’s what you are doing.
Got mine renewed couple of weeks ago. From what I can remember its the renew with lorry entitlement box

Can you explain that last bit for me please Rog

The free C1 C1+E(107) D1(101) D1+E(101) given with a pre 1997 car pass are subject to the same age 70 expiry date
Any LGV or PCV entitlements gained by passing a DVSA test are subject to the D4 medical expiry date
For many that will mean they have a C1 with an age 70 expiry date and another C1 (hidden behind the C) with a D4 medical expiry date
For the categories I listed which were got for free the requirement at age 70 is to take a D4 medical to keep them valid for a further THREE years
For DVSA LGV/PCV gained categories the D4 medical requirements are yearly from age 65
Thanks for all your help again lads.
The questions on the form asks.
To renew my licence with full entitlement: Lorry
I’m guessing the question above is the one I need to tick, even though I only have a class 2■■?
Other questions on the form are…
To renew for medical reasons.
To renew my licence because it was revoked.
PS sorry for being so thick.
To renew my licence with full entitlement: Lorry
That’s the one. Don’t worry about sounding thick, I had to read through mine 2/3 times just to make sure I’d got it right.
Just one little tip, read through doctors & opticians report thoroughly to make sure it’s all been filled in correctly.
Mine was returned because the optician hadn’t ticked one box.
Thanks for that Wing Nut.
Doesn’t the Doctor do the eyesight part with the medical?

Doctor can do it but they don’t have all the proper gear and as I have to wear glasses now, wanted to get it done properly.
Tesco currently do a free eyesight test.
