What does the “S” stand for in s. hertogenbosch
The city’s official name is a contraction of the Dutch des Hertogen bosch–“the Duke’s forest”.
And everyone calls it Den Bosch to further confuse matters

A little bit like “Wooster” = Worcester, “Lester” = Leicester, “Lemster” = Leominster, if you are not from here and somebody tells you on the phone to go there, you will never find it on the map, not in a hundred years
By the way “The Hague” doesn’t excist, somebody made that up because he couldn’t pronounce it properly, and got taken over by the rest of the English speaking community. It’s a little bid like the Dutch call the United Kingdom “Engeland” and the whole of Ireland incl. North and South, just “Ierland”.

The “S” stands for “Des”
its official “Des Hertoghenbosch” en " Des Gravenhage" (= “The Earls Hedge”)
Its actualy old Dutch, this is the language where “Africaner” is based on, hence why they can understand the Dutch and visa versa.
