Never short of a helping hand on this site!!! Henry Cooke (1932) Ltd. was the name of the Mill.It was shortened to Henry Cooke Ltd in the early 70’s.The driver you are talking about will be Eric Swindlehurst R.I.P.He drove a square cabbed Octopus and then he got the first artic which was an "F"reg. coachbuilt cab Seddon 180LXB/DB/Group axle and it came with a 30ft Boden tandem axle trailer.Eric left Cookes in about 1970 and finished driving at that time.Cookes had reduced their in house fleet to 3 artics and 6 trailers by 1968 and then down to two G reg.Seddon tractors. We supplied Cookes with two replacement Seddon tractors in '72 and '73 and then I bought the Henry Cooke fleet “lock stock” at W.D.V.(info for “George”)in Dec '76 and Cookes no longer operated ,or wished to,run their own fleet.Bewick.

This is the only shot of the last new tractor that Henry Cooke bought seen here in the Bewick depot in Milnthorpe on the day we delivered it to the Mill.I have another shot of the same tractor but after it had been re-painted into Bewick red & white but still in use on the Henry Cooke contract.

This is the colour scheme we adopted from Jan '77 and this shot is in the Mill at Beetham and is a Bewick Seddon that we took off double shift and re-painted and lettered. The tractor was just about 2 and a half years old at this time. Its spec was Cu220/Fuller 610/Group axle and its gearing was such that it could “catch pidgeons”.

Thanks for all your help.
Will phone driver and get more info and direct him to this site.
Bewick are you willing to send this lad a couple of photos mate.
Great to be here.

And this is a shot of a brand new Guy in the depot at Milnthorpe Jan’77 prior to entering service on the Cooke contract sadly its not an 8LXB engined motor!!

This is a shot of the same tractor re-painted red & white and now on the Bewick fleet.Don’t ask why its not loaded with Henry Cooke paper! It is actually loaded with concrete drainage pipes from Shap Granite probably for the Fen’s(we did have a lot of other customers) and sometimes we had to switch motors around.

This is a shot of one of two new 1977 Sed/Atks we ran on the Henry Cooke contract seen here in the depot at Milnthorpe and it is coupled to a 36ft tandem York LD34 which was the last trailer Cookes bought with the M reg.Seddon.It is loaded with 20ton of paper plus some empty pallets for a collection of some sort back to the mill.

This is a1977 shot of a “newish” 111 about to pull out of the mill at Beetham to head south with 20 ton of paper.

This is one of my favourite Bewick shots and is a very early '73 shot of the near new Atki tractor OJM 480L coupled to fleet no T9 a York SL34 36ft tandem. It is standing outside the mill canteen at Beetham waiting to go down to the Pulp store to tip its load which it has brought up from Tilbury.

This is a shot that was taken in the MOT test centre on a Saturday morning in '88 (I think) Its of one of a pair of new Scanias we got, the other one went onto our Walki Converters contract and this one onto the Henry Cooke Makin operation at the time Bibby’s had amalgamated the 3 paper mills they owned at Beetham,Disley & Oakenholt. We put a number of new liveried tautliners into service at the time also.

Another shot of F278FEC/T151 from the O/S and standing in the depot at Milthorpe.
