We are working in Helsinki this week until we catch the Ferry on Sunday evening. Does anyone know of any parking with shower facilities close to the centre ?. many thanks.
Not much parking left in Helsinki these days. Downtown has an efficiently enforced (cameras) 12m length limit, except for the South Harbor (Etelasatama), Katajanokka and West Harbor (Lansisatama). You can’t park there, though, they require a ferry/trailer pickup booking to enter. So, the remaining alternatives are:
Vuosaari harbor, eastern Helsinki, parking and ABC-truckstop by a street called “Rahtarinkatu” (=Freighter’s street). This harbor is where the ferries to Travemünde depart from. As for reaching downtown there is a bus service to Vuosaari center (3 km) (street: “Vuotie”) from where you can take the tube. Food, beer, atm, showers and sauna in the ABC or nearby establishments.
Pasila Shell garage, Veturitie 17, 00240 Helsinki, is almost certainly full, since they have only a few parking spaces. They do have food and showers and are within walking distance to tram and regional train downtown.
In short, parking in Helsinki is as lousy as everywhere else nowadays…
Hope this helps, nonetheless,
cheers,
Tom
