Help with apprenticeship

Hello,
Im looking to get an apprenticeship. Its not a driving one, im looking for a mechanic/fitter/service technician on HGVs. Also a refrigeration technician, so working on the fridges of trailors etc.
Ive already applied for Scania, got to write to Volvo, MAN said they would call back but didnt today. So ill give them a call tomorrow or friday. Also got Renault to try aswell. They all do their own apprenticeship schemes.
What im wanting to find out, is if anyone knows of any other companies that will take on apprentices, or that is worth a try. Ive got a few more to call up/send CVs to. But i was just wondering if anyone knew anything.
With the Refrigeration Technician ive sent off some CVs and letters to a few companies.
Anyone have any suggestions for that?
I live in Nottingham, i dont mind travelling so far. Not got a car yet, but if i need one then i will get one to get me there.
Any suggestions from anyone?
Cheers :sunglasses:

(i hope i didnt put this in the wrong section, saw the jobs one but im after suggestions more then job offers. They would be nice though!Ive also posted it on here because i thought that drivers would know what companies are used. So hopefully ill end up finding something)

hi mate.
Was in Imperial commercials in Stoke collecting parts and a truck this afternoon and saw they had a notice up looking for apprentices. As your probably aware there is a Daf dealer just off the A453 by Gotham? Not sure if thats part of the same group? There is also a Imperial dealer near Beeston somewhere i think?
On the fridge side the main people we use are pullmans @ Lichfield (not sure if they have other depots?) and Michaell Ward.
Hope this helps!!

Thanks alot mate, places i not tried.
Ill have a look around on their sites and give them a call.

What do people think is best by the way? Call them before sending a CV, or justs end a CV with a letter?

sorry to do this to you but i’m an apprentice atm, i heard from college that there is no more goverment funding availble for any apprenticeships any more. i can’t confirm it but i heard this from appernticeship department at college.

Looked on DAF website and it says no vacancies, will give the local dealer a call and see what they say.
Got 7 dealers in a decent distance to call. 3 are Imperial.
Pullmans dont have a depot near me. Michaell Ward the same.
Thanks for the info though. Ill see how it goes with DAF

What apprenticeship you doing?
What do you mean by no government funding anymore?

No problem and good luck! Just a thought but have you tried royal mail or BT? Been to a fair few of there workshops (which are immaculate!! :unamused:  ) and seen a few ‘younger people’ working with time served lads. Like i say just an idea, might need to call them tho?

Royal Mail and BT another possibility.
I looked on Royal Mail site and they didnt have anything like that, but ill give them a call and see what they say. Never thought of BT either.
Im 18, so going into it 2 years after some people, hoping this doesnt effect anything. The Scania one said they were after 16/17 year olds.
Thanks for the help :sunglasses:
BT do one. Cant apply yet though.

Rather than just looking at main dealers, try to find out who does truck repairs in the area, working on all makes of trucks. One place I know of is in that yard smack opposite the County FC ground on meadow lane (google map ref 52.940653, -1.135571) and looking at google, a few more in that area. Study google looking for trailers and trucks. Where there’s trucks, there’s mechanics.
Sorry, best help I can offer, but good luck to you for having a go rather than just sitting waiting for a job to drop in your lap

Thats Dairy Crest i think mate. I know they got a yard there. Not sure if they would have anything but its worth a try.
Just done a ssearch for HGV garages/repairs and got a load to try.
Cheers

No mate, the little gate before there has a garage that does some HGV work, the very last unit on the right before the water (by the foot-bridge and lock with the red square on the picture), but hey, Dairy Crest would do him…

Know what its called mate? If not ill take a ride down tomorrow

Can’t remember. I’ve picked trucks up from there in the past. Sorry.

Just have a wander about round the area, I think it has a steel gate if my memory is working.

No worries. Ive been sat across from there many a time aswell, can see the place from the Kayak club.
Ill have a ride down and a look around.

What about Mercedes, they have a place in Derby, just off Pentagon island. We have our Actros serviced there.

Also there is this company in Castle Donington. It says that they have no vacancies but you never know what might come up. They service fridge units.

Good luck with your search.

Sent one to Marshall Fleet Solutions i think. Part of Marshall Thermo King? I take it that they are.
I looked on Merc, but couldnt find anything on their site. Ive just found it though, made a few calls and they are going to get back to me.
Ive got a few garages who said they will get back to me, a few sending out application forms and im going to send CVs to other that said they didnt have anything going yet, but may well do.
I called DAF in Leicester, and when i gave my address she reminded me it was in Leicester.
Hopefully i will get something. I wouldnt mind something with one of the truck companies, they have their own college so it would be easier.
Got to wait and see now.
Ill either be popping down to have a look at the Garage by the county ground today if i have time, or tomorrow.
Cheers :sunglasses:
Just got to hope that they get back to me with something.

good luck on the hunt, probley not what your looking for but try the local bus companes, manly do tend to do in house repairs and try local haulers as well, some may do some in house instead of sending to the dealer.

Dont think its true. Spoke to the careers person at college today, apparently the government should be putting more money in this year, to create more apprenticeships.

Contact the Conservative central office and ask them
