Help, does any one know who could transport a house boat from Southampton to Liverpool. It weight is 40-45 tonnes. 45ft long by 16ft wide.
Maybe put another thread in owner drivers forum, might get more interest?
or on a load website.
Try a firm called holdsworth i think thats right they are at bradford area the only problem may be the width of your boat
Regards
Andrew
try

they r based in kirby ind est aswell so could work well as a back load !
boattransport.co.uk/ have you tried this lot yet… They are based in southampton and one of there lads is a member of this site as well.
Forgive the bl**din’ obvious!
It’s a boat therefore it floats on water? Last time I looked Southampton and Liverpool were surrounded/connected by the stuff.
Can you not have it towed instead of causing havoc on our roads? 16 ft wide!
It’s like moving railway engines by road…
Consult Clarkson, he seems to be experienced in attaching large outboards to odd items!
There’s firm in the US that carries out ‘Monster Moves’. That riverboat and the ‘Spruce Goose’ come to mind.
Got a pic of it?

I think I would rather take my chance on the roads, even though it is 16’ wide, it is built like a brick and wouldn’t fancy sailing or towing that around the Lizard or across the Severn estuary. 16’ houseboat turns up everywhere as matchwood

It does not have an engine, its a converted ammunition barge.
The only option is to transport by road.
OK, not takin’ the proverbial, I have a passing interest in moving/recovering large objects, e.g. Kursk and that car transporter they cut into 9 pieces. Dutch company, Smit? Same principle. (Not cuttin’ it up!)
So, you first have to lift it from the water. Can you not find a marine mover who will load it onto another larger barge and deliver it?
Or a submersible barge?
Probably be a smoother ride than on the road. A lot less hassle, no VOSA!
What’s the (road) loaded height gonna be?

Not looked into that yet, but from all the conversations I’ve had today with various heavy haulage companies, moving by submersible barge might be the only viable option.
The height from the keel is 18ft. Flat bottomed, could reduce this to 16.5ft if I remove the water tank up top.
Post a pic?
You might find that option very expensive,we looked at getting one sailed down to southampton from lowestoft.
Were quoted £5-7000 plus fuel,10 gallons an hour, not cheap.Bought one in southampton area in the end, easier and cheaper, stress free option.
Simon.

Got none. Hoping to buy from a friend and after all the conversations today it’s not looking good.

I’m being quoted by road, 10-11k if i can not reduce the height it to 16 31/2 if i can, the price drops to 3-4k. The boat it’s self is a 3 bed room, kitchen and lounge and only 6k. I’m prepared to spend 10k all in, but it’s looking grim.
I’m going back 6 yrs now,so everything will of gone up,they reckoned on 5/6 days sailing,10 hrs a day,10 gallons an hr,I just thought Sod it.
Buy a dinghy and a tent instead

That’s because they have to cover the cost of removing and replacing overhead telephone and electricity lines plus lamp posts in addition to all the traffic bollards and traffic lights which’ll have to be removed as it is due to the width.
Remember that if the height from the bottom of the boat to the top is 18ft, you’ve another 3ft to add onto that for the trailer and frame it sits on. At 21ft, you’re going to find a few motorway bridges that present a problem.
Give Alleleys Heavy Haulage from Studley, Warks a ring - they have the kit and experience to move pretty much anything by road. Be warned though, whoever you hire to do the job it certainly wont be cheap!!
Just a thought!
You may be able to find a TV production company interested in making a program about your planned houseboat move.
I would guess, presuming the barge is seaworthy, that a decent mounting frame on the stern would accomodate 2 or 3 large outboards a la Clarkson pickup and the accompanying film crew and safety vessels would be there to take you off if it went â– â– â– â– up.
As I said, just a thought…

a bloody good thought, i’ve also just found out that the height can now be reduced to 14ft 6’’ by removing the water tank.
Time to phone aroung again.
Do you need the stuff inside moved
