Don’t want to put a downer on this brilliant thread, but anybody remember the disastrous accident at Hixon rail crossing in Staffordshire back in the sixties? When a Wynn’s push and pull with a 120 ton transformer on didn’t clear the rail crossing and was hit buy an express train killing 11 people and injuring many dozens, sad times…

That load on the Wilson wagon looks familiar, tipped some of those in Lockerbie last year, loaded them in Hungary at one of the Danone plants.

The dozer lift 1979 the rig move 1986ish.

Hi Dean! Yeah if i remember it had a motor on one of the trailers. And in the cab it had two rpm indcators(right word?) so the were at the same rpm. See if i find out some more.

Hello Ossie, Not a downer at all intresting stuff. Happened in January 1968 ! Heres some photos and report about it. Unbelievably it looks like neither the driver or Police checked with the railway to see if it was safe to cross or informed the railway that a heavy load would be crossing ■■

The first photo is from a Peckston promotional brochure and if read states how Magnaload came about in the UK. It was a world record move at the time as i can recall buying that years Guinness Book of Records.as my uncle was involved in the movement.
Second photo is of the Scammell which was nicknamed Betsy.
