Ah, so the driver bailed out as it went over. Best idea really.
I’ve just seen that, ironically on the American site where I posted a photo this morning. He went down headfirst as he felt it going. Just like me 3 weeks ago walking the dogs by the river I tripped and went straight in 2 metres headfirst and didn’t stop 'till my head hit the bottom.
At least that bloke had someone to look after him, my 2 dogs ignored the situation completely as if I did it every day.
Ah well nowt serious damaged then!
Looks like a 750T crane has come down from Belgium, and the recovery lift is expected tonight. Grand Nancy. Levage du convoi exceptionnel bloqué sur un pont à Jarville : l'opération aura lieu à partir de jeudi soir
The crane pictured is the little one needed to assemble the big one. Wish I was close enough to be a rubbernecker over the next few days and nights.
I didn’t realise that the French for crane was ‘grue’, amusing for us in the SW because the birds have, as in English, the same name and local forums are full of sightings of their giant V formations flying north and south according to season. We usually hear them before we see them and at first I thought what a waste of breath, but then realised it was their version of grunting like our heavy breathing might be. Got one ear open at the moment for the northbound cries.
Someone needs to tell the guy in red overalls, that is a serious situation, not a time for skylarking.
This is the crane being set up yesterday.
Daresay more when the lift is being done.
And today
The driver has just jumped from his cab, in case the truck had fallen into the river. He suffered slight head injury.
That’s what I assumed. My comment was an attempt at humour.
Set up now.
And the boiler has been put onto a different truck.
Daft place to do a change-over. I always did them at motorway services
Gently gently, so gently you could hardly see it moving round, I can imagine that the last thing they wanted was for it to start swinging.
Nice bit of cool reversing driver as well.
I wonder if the original trailer can be driven off the bridge or would it have been badly damaged in the incident? The tractor too, twisted chassis?
Hopefully everything will spring back, these modern steels are pretty good.
He’d have been ok if he’d put his hi-vis on first, bloody french, no idea on elf n safely!
Sarens loaded it out, was it our man Ricki?
