Hi Patrick,
Nice set of pics there mate, you have caught up with Bonzo Bear eventually! Cheers Pete
Ta mate!
Aye, was a long wait, but it was worth it! Never realised Bonzo Bear was that big… you were right though, it’s in pretty rough shape, proper project that is during the winterly months…
I have quite a few of Bakers, here is another one on the continent with a load of pipe layers.
Cheers LR Man!
Nowt has changed in the past 30 odd years, well apart from the wagons that is, but they still use those CAT pipe layers to this day, brought some of those to a project near Langres, they’ve only been serviced and resprayed, that’s it. Old CAT’s never die
I’m chuffed about the rest of the “scenery” in that pic you’ve posted as well, just look at those cars…
LR Man:
This is one of my uncle Phil Dibden (RIP) photos taken in the seventies somewhere on the continent (not the Bakehouse!), he was driving the ERF in convoy with the Scammell Contractor. Bakers of Southampton did many trips like this.
The car on the left is Eric Bakes Rover 3.5 litre Coupe being used as an ■■■■■■ complete with Convoi Exceptionnel and flashing light on the roof!
Like the Rover 3.5 litre as a ■■■■■■ LR Man, that would have been thirsty. They were lovely looking motors
with nice leather armchair seats !
I was given these pictures by a anonymous source, footage in question came out of Mr John Goodreid’s aka Saviem vast archive.
So as a proper salute to John it’s a small but fitting tribute to post them on here.
EDTRUCK:
pv83 - is that actually Bonzo Bear as Iirc seem to remember she was a 1978 F700 on a T plate!!!
Yes it is mate, repatriated from South Africa I believe, saw it at Kelsall rally and she has had a hard life,
As Pete says EDTRUCK, it’s the one and only, heard rumours about it early this year that Bonzo was still working in South Africa and that it was bought by a restorer/collector. Plan is to fully restore it and paint it in Chris Miller’s livery, does need some work though, Bonzo is in ill health to put it mildly… still, what are the chances bumping into such a legend! Most of us thought Bonzo was scrapped long time ago…
