Leyland Ash:
This was posted here earlier - it’s a Mack DM800 assembled by Mack Ashdod and owned by Solel Boneh (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solel_Boneh), one of Israel’s largest construction companies. It belonged to the Haifa branch’s Special Operations Department and driven by Zach Gutmann and Aaron Snyr. It had (like most civilian Israeli DM800s) a ■■■■■■■ 350. Info via Ronnie Sharon and Aviram Sternfeld.
Before the Macks Ashdod assembled Leylands, Albions and Scammells although everything was badged as Leyland due to political reasons. The Contractor was Owned by the Bet-Shean Harod co-op which at the time comprised of a joint fleet of number of Kibbutzim in the North Galilee. Not sure about the ownership of the current haulier but they’re still around(tsh.co.il/). The Contractor had a ■■■■■■■ 250 and Fuller Roadranger 15sp box (all but 4 Contractors imported to Israel had the Fuller box).
A very informative post Leyland Ash, cheers for posting mate
Never fully understand the reason to rename or rebadge the Scammells, just doesn’t seem right to put Leyland on them, does it…
DIG:
Dean I.m stealing your thunder here but I reckon this Contractor deserves a place in this thread after the great sleuthing you did to get it on the Scammel thread.

Is that Fergie in the last pic? Showing us how it needs to be done…
Right, couple of pic’s from the Dorset steam fair then, following footage is from the wagons that didn’t take part in the show itself but were merely used to transport the steam rollers, classic lorries and what have you to to the fair. And if I’m honest, I reckoned these old soldiers were just as interesting as what was on display, shame really that they got overlooked by the majority of the crowd… Anyway, time to do them justice eh
One of the longest loads Edward Beck of Stockport transported was this gas storage tank built at the Whessoe Engineering works at Darlington.
Pictured here in 1964 it is about to leave the factory destined for Liverpool docks. Click on picture to view full size.

This is one of my uncle Phil Dibden (RIP) photos taken in the seventies somewhere on the continent (not the Bakehouse!), he was driving the ERF in convoy with the Scammell Contractor. Bakers of Southampton did many trips like this.
The car on the left is Eric Bakes Rover 3.5 litre Coupe being used as an ■■■■■■ complete with Convoi Exceptionnel and flashing light on the roof!
