thehairyarsedtrucker:
I had a heart attack in 2013 and I’ve just done my 3rd treadmill test, I struggled with the last one cos I was made up with a cold but passed…just.
You do 3 minutes at a brisk pace on an incline, then speed and incline increase for a further 3 mins followed by more speed and incline increase for 3 more mins. If you stop at any time its a fail.
So while you are not working get used to walking about a mile as fast as you are able each day and you should be ok when the test comes along.
Good luck
yes not doing the 9 minutes is a fail but it is not the end of the line, there is other ways they can do the stress test on your heart, the treadmill is the cheapest way
Now you tell me !
As a fully paid up Yorkshireman please dont tell me the other way of stress testing your heart is to make you pay the doctors bill ■■

no i believe they go down the injection route to raise your heart rate
Me,when Im 65,I will be retiring.I will have my motorhome ,so many places to see in this country and Europe.Im not giving my retirement years to waiting in rdcs, this is my time, not their’s
I had a stroke, not a heart attack, so different rules.
I have to wait a year before asking to get my licence back (2 weeks left to wait ).
I believe I’ll have to do a treadmill test, but that shouldn’t be a problem for me.
I’ve been walking in training for the Edinburgh 24 Mile Kiltwalk in September.
So I’ve been walking 4+ miles most days in about an hour (Strava says 4.57 miles in 53 minutes today, it’s lying btw but I’ll still accept that ).
I’ve also been walking up a local landmark hill regularly, a 6 mile there and back in 2 hours, climbing over 800 feet.
And also the occasional 12.5 mile lap of Loch Leven, taking 3.15 - 3.30.
I’m 63, and will be retiring at 66, my state pension age. I might do some part-time after that, depending on boredom or finances, but very part-time.
Luckily my boss is keeping my job open for me, so as soon as I get my licence back, I can get back to work.
Dole money doesn’t go far these day
Hi guys, i have a question, can still drive an HGV whilst waiting for the treadmill test, DVLA says i can my doctor saying ok if i have 6 weeks off after my operation, i had 8 weeks off then did 12 shifts now my company has stopped me driving and not offered alternative work , put me back on sick wh ive been declared fit , on SSP which is an insult, anyone got any advice please
Since the DVSA have said you are OK to drive, and since you have driven, then this looks like employment law, and a dispute between you and the company.
So, is it it an agency or a permanent job?
How long have you been employed there?
And is it in writing that the company think you are unfit or what?
It is likely that your Contract Of Employment will be very relevant here’
If you are in a Union are they involved?
If not in a Union then maybe the Citizen’s Advise is the way to go?
Hi there thanks for your reply.
I’ve been at the company 2 and a half years so I have employee rights and its full-time, no nothing in writing from the company at all, I know I’m employed as a driver but not been offered any other form of employment within the company, also not in a union but as I say I’m fit to wo
Over 2 years, as you say gives you more rights than under.
It looks like you may need to speak to CAB or ACAS or a Lawyer. The first two are free. Some lawyers give a first consultation free and should give a head’s up of ongoing costs.
Firstly if you are otherwise happy there, try talking to them.
I’m guessing you have tried that which is why you’re asking here.
Some companies seem perfectly good until there is an issue, and then their true colours show. Maybe that is happening here.
It may be breach of contract, constructive dismissal, or something that is actually covered in the contract. Which you should have been given.
Looks like it’s time to speak to the professionals.
Good luck.
My mate & neighbour did just this aged 62, He had a heart attack & had a stent & pacemaker fitted only they found other problems with his heart, suffice to say he wasn’t going to have a long life but he insisted on getting his licence back.
In the end he had blackouts whilst doing the opposite the docs told him & finally had a stroke that took his life.
I told him to get a hobby & take early retirement but he was only interested in driving lorries, The thing is he had a good private pension to do that.
He didn’t even make a will & left his partner to sort everything out.
I read today about the numbers of drivers having their licences revoked on medical grounds in fleet news.
Yeah, quite sad that with all the millions of things that you can do with your life as a hobby, there are still some that have nothing but their job to occupy their self.
@rick62 You are telling us the DVLA has said it is fine to drive while you are waiting on the test. We don’t know that is the case.
If I were a betting man, I would bet on the DVLA taking your licence away until a test is satisfactorily completed and after six weeks as well.
When you check your licence online, what does it say? Perhaps your firm has done a licence check, which you may have authorised at one time or another by signing something.
All I did was faint coz I twisted my ankle, not DVLA notifiable but was forced to by management when on the buses. Took 18 months of phone calls, Doctors and MP letters to DVLA to get my Licence back, all entitlements were revoked. Young woman a couple of doors away had a heart attack, now has a pacemaker, got her car license back after a few months??
did you have a heart attack and have stents fitted or was it blood pressure related?
if it was a heart attack then the answer is no you cant drive and the dvla will have you wait 12 weeks before they give the treadmill test to recover.
if it blood pressure related the yes you can drive under section 88 but you must contact dvla and get it confirmed and they will send out a covering letter
Hi mate thanks for the information, and your spot on it will now be 17 weeks since my HA to my treadmill test, HA on the 29th March, 3 stents on the 9th of April and treadmill is now n the 26th of July but I’m feeling great doing the rehab.
glad to hear your dong well in the rehab, if you want information on the treadmill test they use it is called the bruce protocol stress test, good luck
