There is a large Hayton Coulthard depot on the old A74 just north of Ecclefechan. Can anyone tell me if there was originally a transport cafe here? Cheers
There used to be filling stations on both sides of the road but I don’t know if they had parking up facilities.
OK thanks…
There still is…
‘The Fechan cafe’ they call it.
You get a ‘fechan’ good breakfast there as well.
You can also park overnight.
It’s in use as a truck stop and has fuel pumps on opposite side of the road.
I’ve only used it a few times for my 45 mins break never had a night out there
I think what I’m getting at is was there a recognised truck stop there before or is the ‘Fechan cafe’ a more recent addition?
Took a measurement from Google maps. The concrete footprint on the north bound one is 35 x 28m. You would struggle to get truck in to fuel up let alone stop for a break.
There is a designated truck park just up from HC’s depot, and opposite the cafe in a northerly direction from HC.
After saying that, it’ll be a year or so since I stopped there, so it has maybe changed…maybe HC has it all now, I don’t know.
