Great shot John,I would say circa 1982,Malc Woodhouse Snr. RIP was a great pal of mine over many years,we wern’t in the same line of transport but we did many many deals on buying and selling motors and trailers over more than 25 years.Malc always gave me first “dibbs” at anything that was of the quality I looked for as well as brand new stuff and when I was culling the fleet I just picked the phone up and rhymed off what was available and when and we agreed the price( always top dollar) over the phone. There was never any robbing of tyres or radios etc prior to the motors leaving our yard, much to the annoyance of our fitters at times.Malc always said he could sell our stuff straight on and stand by it as honest gear! A standard saying of a lot of firms reps we both dealt with over the years was " yer mate up at Milnthorpe" and “Yer mate down at Lancaster”.Great bloke and great years of dealing ! Cheers Dennis

Thanks for the info John,so that would make the MW 112 almost brand new at the time and one of the first 112’s on the road, the Bewick F10 would have been a “V” reg '79 which replaced a written off F88,the trailer coupled to the F10 was one of three York curtainsiders we ran,not a patch on the Bo-Alloys but you’ve got to run a bit of gear like that to appreciate the good stuff  cheers Dennis.

Grant Parker`s Scania 112 takes a break for the weekend after unloading 2 older-type farm tractors at
Greenlands Farm Vintage Rally , near Carnforth.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Robert Woodhouse`s loaded Volvo FH takes a break after being in use throughout the weekend of the
■■■■■■■ Steam Gathering.
Seen here , loaded with various types of farming machinery which had been on public display.

Hi Roy,
A better load

Cheers Malc.

Hi Malc ,
Thanks for the pic. Good to see you on TNUK again , and I hope you are keeping well.

That coach certainly looks worse for wear :frowning: . Was it in a repairable condition ?
At least the old tractor and farm machinery were still functional .

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Anyone remember this firm, now long gone.

From memory (and I could be totally wrong) Larry Packham from Bolton Le Sands who ran a
couple of Commers and JCBs retired and set his two sons up with an AEC Mercury each with
work. I remember them coming into Back Lane Quarry when I worked there in the early 70s.
I bought my first wagon off Richard Packham, the other brother, in 1983 who by that time
was running a Leyland Reiver. Not my picture, I scanned it out of a book.

I drove a Leyland Comet very similar to that AEC,same cab and wheelbase David.
Cheers Dave.

I think the AEC was a far superior motor to the Leyland Dave. I know which I would rather have had but
they were sightly before my driving days. The AEC Marshall 8 wheeler had the same engine and gearbox
as the 4 wheel Mercury.

The Comet I drove only had the Leyland 400 engine David, not as much pulling power as a Commer Maxiload I drove for C W Griffiths or a Bedford KM which I was driving for C M Philpotts. The only AEC I drove was a Matador with a crane and winch for breakdowns which was 25 year old the couple of times I drove it.
Cheers Dave.

You will have to take my word for it but I remember taking the picture of the bus and the
Commer in the background was one of Larry Packhams. For the sake of decency I have chopped
the bus.

My grandad used to park his wagon on Carnforth Wagon park right up till his retirment, Last two I remember are a Volvo F7 (Photo is on David Smith’s wagonpics site) and then an FL7 aftwards.

Name was Les Newton, Lived in Carnforth for near 40 years.

I knew Les well DEW. First met him when he bought a K type Dodge 4 wheeler from Joe Shepherd and put it in Silverdale Quarry where I was a fitter. Your Dad had an AEC Marshall at that time if I remember correctly but soon joined the family standard Reiver club. Shortly after I started as an owner driver in 1984 3 of us with 6 wheelers were sent to Caldbeck Quarry near Penrith by Kingston Minerals who owned both quarries. Me, Les and Tim Bragg, who drove for Derek Waring at Sandside took them up on it. They gave us each a load from Silverdale to Carlisle Royal Infirmary and then we went to Caldbeck quarry and we were supposed to stay at Caldbeck for a week but we all went home at night. It didn’t last long because the quarry hadn’t enough stone crushed to keep all the wagons going that they had sent there and we soon ended up back in Silverdale. This picture is from around that time and was taken near Carnforth on a pipeline. They used to give you an address and when you got there they expected you to drive another 10 miles along the pipeline so they didn’t pay the rate for where you ended up. We were off across the fields here but I hit some soft ground and lost it. The machine driver was French and couldn’t understand what we wanted but eventually was persuaded to take enough off the back of mine to enable me to back out. The Reiver was mine and the Bison was Derek Waring’s

We still have some photo’s at my Grandad’s from when they both had Reivers, sadly a little before my time as the oldest truck I remember was the Constructor in Green & Red, cracking truck and sometimes wish we still had it today! Les worked out of Silverdale right up till his retirment and the quarry closing, it’s all been landscaped off now. This was his F7 on your site as I said above, the FL7 was ex-Tarmac and still in their basic colours.

The quarrying hasn’t moved on re: address’s though, I remember a few years ago going with my dad to a set of roadworks “10 miles north of dumfries” (yep, that’s what the ticket said), not sure how far it actually was, but it was a solid hours driving past!

Jeff Packham finished his driving with an FM7 on a T reg iirc, retired now and moved out of Carnforth. He was quite in with a religious place in B-L-S as well, we used to go riding quad bikes there when I was a lot younger

The place you mention in Bolton Le Sands was Larry Packhams DEW. Could this be the FM7 reborn ?

Hi truckfing I spoke with Geoff packham just today,he said he took his fm 7 to Colchester, then it was exported to Africa.
