Scott’s at Penrith, perhaps? They did have ■■■■■■■■ (former Kendal) registrations.

Re. The late great Malcolm Woodhouse! In 1968 Malcolm suffered a severe financial blow when Millom Iron Works suddenly went down owing him a substantial sum.It would have sunk many another firm but not MW ! He rebuilt his business almost from scratch and over the past four decades has created a fine operation which is the envy of the tipper industry and serves as a suitable Epitaph to his memory . Regarding Lancaster Transport - I was told in confidence by Malcolm over 30 years ago that to prove his point to his accountant and Bank manager he started Lanaster Transport up entirely financed by overdraft & HP and in a relative short period of years created an operation with no finance and substantial credit balance in the account!!! With regard to the photo of the new MW Sed Atk & Tipper trailer I believe it was taken for Sed Atk publicity and was shot at the old Woodhouse depot on the Quay at Lancaster. The piece der resistance is it is the late MW @ the wheel!!! The tractor would have had an 8LXB/Fuller/Group axle and the tipper chassis would be Crane Fruehauf c/w Craven Homalloy Garstang body the tipping gear I am not sure about but it was probably Edbro or Harsh ?.

Post script to my Malcolm Woodhouse blog ----No7 was MW,s lucky number so the Sed Atk must have been special to have been allocated fleet No7 but Iam certain it would not have been fitted with a RR265 or there would have been flying pigs in the shot as well !!!
Hi Bewick.
Thanks for the info about the Malcolm Woodhouse Sed Atk thats what we like to see & hear about on here.I presume you knew him quite well.If you have any photos we would love to see them. You are right about him having a nice fleet how many are they running these days?do you know off hand.
Hello Everyone,
Re Malc Woodhouse 400, pigs do fly !!! because it was a RR265l, Jack Green and i delivered it unpainted to the old yard, it had
an extra fuel tank on the offside, i was just a young lad then and i remember being in awe of Malc Woodhouse but he did make us a cup of tea !!
From memory he did not have any more 400,s, i think there were reliability issue,s and the dreaded rust.

Gandy have you been in touch with Jack Green yet ? Don’t know if this Ferrymaster Scammell is regarded as Lancs Haulier ?
There surely was a lot of them around this area. Taken Sunday 18th at the Leyland Commercial Museum prior to start of Road Run

Were you connected to Bewick Transport? I believe that Malcolm Woodhouse used to be associated with them.
Malcolm had a second hand vehicle trading business, he supplied Bewick with most of their vehicles, mainly Scania’s.
Funny you should mention about selling second hand trucks, I remember going to have a look at, and later buying an ex-Hinchcliffe 111 which had a tag axle conversion and an ex-John T Howard 112. That must have been in the mid eighties. I wondered at the time what they we doing in Woodhouse’s yard.
Hello Big Al,
Yes I am in contact with Jack Green, quite emotional actually, many thanks for your help.

I don’t know if you use Skype ? but i have many friends all over the world (inc Australia) and I speak
to them over the internet for free using Skype. When I worked in The Middle East a mobile call to home
cost me £2.70 per minute and 70p per minute to receive it at home. The grandkids put us onto Skype
and we could talk all day for free, including be able to see the other person in real time if you had a webcam

At least my info about Malcolm Woodhouse has caused a flurry of activity !!! Re. the Sed Atk in the photo if it did indeed have aRR265 engine it had probably have been thrown in F.O.C. along with the 3 or 4 8LXB tractors he probably bought !!! Malcolm often owned up to being a soft touch and this tractor must have turned up on one of those days or P.N.E. could have won so he had lost the plot for a moment !!! All the Sed Atks I recall he ran had Gardeners and he definitley had no ■■■■■■■ !!

It was indeed a factory publicity photo, and was scanned direct from the works negative.

Yes - it was, wasn’t it…
I’ve been told since it was scanned and viewed by several people that despite being snapped in Woodhouse colours for the manufacturer, it never pulled a load for them and was sold not long after the pictures were taken.
The early 400 that went to K Fell (and was also snapped by the SA publicity people) also had a short life with it’s first operator - seems they didn’t go down well in some quarters…
hears one u wont know john davidson out of gressingham about 1930 ran a couple of leylands and trailers then moved south to barton nr garstang
Re.The on going discussion about the Malc Woodhouse Sed Atk photo --Thank you Marky !! I was 99’9 % certain that Woodhose Tpt never ran aRR265 Malc would not have objected to being photographed behind the wheel of a Sed Atk but I am sure he would have drawn the line at the grille having a RR265L badge fixed to it !!! Obviously the young chap that delivered it with Jack Green was not part of the deception !!! Did he see MW hand over the cheque ? Malc always paid C.O.D. and I was present on an number of occasions ( the antics and dramas of this procedure used to have me crippeld with laughter at times).Commercial vehicle salesman are just another branch of the duoble glazing/car sales fraternity – say no more !!!Regarding the comment about the K. Fell Sed Atk I can confirm that Fells only had one Sed Atk 250 ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ which was delivered from Hardman Bros. Walton-le Dale by Jack Greenwood in Dec 1975 it was registered on 22nd Dec (Yes 22nd of Dec !!!) On June 26th 1976 when Fells/J.B. Hudson/J. L. Ion were bought out by the Bewick Group the price attaching to the P reg Sed Atk was more than Bewick could and did buy an8LXB sleeper cab for brand flipping new !! So guess what J Greenwood was told to do when he rolled up in the Fell yard shotly afterwards ---- Bleep Bleep !!. The same retort was given to Hudson Engineers salesman who had over the same period stuffed Fells up with overpriced E.R.F s.Bewicks other firm McGuffie Transport did in fact buy a 6 month old day cab Sed Atk 8LXB SRN177P in early 1976 as well as an identical new tractor R reg Aug 1976 .Both from M. Woodhouse (Sales) and both at very very reasonable prices !!!The K. Fell Sed Atk only survived till Jan 77 then it was booted out and replaced with a new F88 (the same one that ended up hanging off the M6 bridge at Salmesbury about 6 months later ) !!!
And what about D. & R. F. Howarth of Ingleton nobody has given those two lads a mention yet .
Who would’ve thought it? Scullduggery was afoot at the time the 400 series was introduced!!
