Haulage CPC courses in Cheshire/merseyside

I’ve been operating my on trucks now for past 5 years and always employed a TM. I’ve recently had trouble with my ex TM and its been real pain sorting out my new TM so I’m going to do my CPC this year for less hassle and save me few quid.

Does anyone know of any courses in the merseyside/Cheshire areas?

Dont use Mantra in Warrington arse and elbow.

+1 I would recommend avoiding them at Manchester as well. In fairness I got my National CPC, C and C+E and at the start, when they where Cheshire Training (or something like that) and Manchester Training about 4-5 years ago, they where a good company but over the last 4 years things have gone south and they are a shocking company to work with now.

Thanks for the heads up on that as I was going to book my course with then for this August.

What’s so bad about them? (pm me if you don’t with to post it here)

MY experience of them is

My initial contact with Mantra was when i held a conversation with the sales team in regards to the course. I was informed of the course dates and that this would be held at the Warrington site i expressively confirmed this. I was also informed of the course duration, as advertised and the general formation of the course. I made a payment payment of £1204.90 for the course to which i was sent an invoice (using an out of date PDF creator i might add) and promised further instructions where to be sent.

One week later i received an Email stipulating an importance of attending an induction course in Middleton and that this course was to be held the following day. This Email also included an amended timetable incorporating 6 course days 3 international course days 1 mock examination day and 1 open surgery day. It also asked if i have any special dietary requirements in regards to the buffet supplied. Including in this information is that all the course support and study days where to be held at Warrington. Understandably i was somewhat disappointed to receive this Email with less than 24hrs notice to the important induction day, subsequently i could not attend. In addition i could not collect my study material and was informed, after telephoning that i would have to travel to Warrington to collect this personally and that it would not be posted/couriered to me.

While attending the course, along with my fellow students i was informed that all study days are to be held in Middleton, the course is not 12 days in duration it is in fact only 6 unless i/we wish to travel to Middleton for 6/7 days, there is no buffet/refreshments provided and that in general neither our instructor nor Mantra have an idea on the required new Combined CPC content. After making our tutor aware of my concerns i was then informed to make these representations in writing, which considering i was attending their premises on a daily basis was astounding.

Matters i complained to them about where;

The Email sent with less than 24hrs notice for an important induction course.

The important induction course was not held at Warrington it was in fact held in Middleton which would have incurred a travel distance of 54 miles from Warrington.

The issue of having to collect my study material personally.

The course of which i had been charged £850 for a tuition period of 12 days, £70.83 per day is in reality only 6 days (£425)

If i where to attend the study days in Middleton i would have incured a travel of 54 miles per day over 7 days. 378 miles of expenditure. (using the current HMRC quota for millage expenses that would work out at £173.88 plus 54 miles for the induction course £24.84 = £198.72) After expressively confirming that the entire course would be held at Warrington.

The mentioning of a buffet refreshments indicates that these are being provided to those attending the Middleton course and therefore have been factored into the costing of the course. Which we where not supplied with.

The fact that while i was attending their premises it is not plausible for me to make a direct complaint and i had to make the complaint in writing, without being given a nominated person nor address.

In short shoddy mate.

But did you pass?

Think I’ll give these guys a miss. How did you get in with your complaint?

Do you recommend any other local courses?

I’m still waiting on the results at the moment.

I did get a partial refund from them as well as my fellow students.

although it’s maybe a little too far north for you. i would recommend red rose training at preston.
nat/int cpc. dcpc. class c, class c+e, forklift, adr. they do the lot.
all the staff are experienced in what they are teaching you.
