The real Biffo:
What’s the question Micky? If it’s about sickness I can tell you to within a day how many I’ve had off in over 7 years. I’ve had numerous “congratulation” letters for 100% annual attendance.
Same here, I just bin mine.
Next time it happens, ring me if i’m in, I can switch them off! (one or two others can, but we darned tell all the lot how to do it)
Since I’ve moved teams, I appear to working the same shift pattern as you biffs as I hear your dulcet tones in the control room every time I’m on duty.
see you in the morning then, i’m off to bed, 4-30am get up.
night night.

What they’ve let him back on the radio ,
We used to love Biffo spouting unpc bollox ,
they must be desperate for staff .

Derf:
Will I get to write rude words on the overhead matrix boards?
Not if you want to keep your job.
Be worth taking the job just for the chance to eventually write something like “BMW Drivers are ^^^ANKERS”
There’s a few messages that I’d have loved to put up in the past , unfortunately you can only choose from a list of templates, the most you can do is put the motorway number or junction numbers in, nothing else.
Anyway, that would surely be AUDI drivers before BMW drivers.
The real Biffo:
So anyone fed up with the driving job? Don’t mind taking a big drop in wages? Most of you reckon you could do the job better than us that are already in the post.
Vacancies have just been advertised for Control Room Operators at various locations. Closing date is 21st January, but don’t leave it until the last minute as the application form is a bugger!
Well I wouldn’t take a drop in wages because I value my time
And as the old saying goes ‘you pay peanuts you get monkeys’
Maybe you should come do our job
Just a thought
I’ll apply. Can’t be any worse than the monkeys already doing it
Seriously though, it’s not bad… I’m salaried at 24k for ‘11hr graveyard shifts’ driving an artic, so for a very small pay drop I can do a much easier job and get better benefits?

Adam… I’ve done your job mate, long time ago when you had to DRIVE the bloody things, rope & sheet, crash boxes, no power steering, overloaded and under powered, etc. In fact I often look at Truck Mag and read the comments about the old trucks, thinking the author must be wearing rose-tinted glasses, and think “You never had to drive / work on the bloody things” compared with the modern stuff they were bloody awful!

Nothing to do with us I’m afraid. The matrix have fog sensors which automatically turn them on, then they go faulty and it’s a nightmare trying to get them switched off, It took a few days to get the engineer out to turn the last lot of faulty ones on my patch.
Next time it happens, ring me if i’m in, I can switch them off! (one or two others can, but we darned tell all the lot how to do it)
I see a flaw in that shift pattern …
Its crap
Nick, you’re not wrong!
Sorry the question was where are you based. I have an old dear who works in control room in South Mimms
Was tempted to apply for a position in the SW area at Wellington JCT 26 as wanted someone preferably with an hgv but i couldn’t afford the wage drop, (mortgage is a killer isn’t it ?) but i think it was more like 22K not as low as 19
When the HATOs were first being implemented I thought I’d apply for the job based at Darlington. 20+ years of trucking , tons of experience etc.
However when the application pack turned up it was quite clear that they were more interested in people with political correctness before experience. I didn’t bother applying and regard them as a bit of a waste of space to be honest.
