Has anyone got experience with Stagecoach-Cambridge?

Hello
I know, this is a Truck Net but many of you guys I assume got some experience with buses so just a quick one.
Admin; plz don’t give me a beating
Recently been offered a job from Stagecoach as a Trainee bus driver.
Has anyone got any experience with them, how they train people, what is a pass rate with them etc.
I have passed my Medical and got my provisional PCV licence, on November I can start a job.
I heard that they got an internal examiner to make it ,easier’’
Any info will be much appreciated.
Cheers

Not got any info about stagecoaches procedures, I was a driver trainer/Instructor for First Glasgow, but sounds like a similar operation.

Internal examiner, takes you for modules 3+4, theory test and module 2 gets done before you are handed to the instructor, who then prepares you for “Show me, Tell me” module 4, and Driving test module 3.

Could tell you a lot more about how First process a trainee driver, but could be irrelevant, as it’s Stagecoach your going for.

Good Luck with it mate!!!

Those on here may be able to help more = coachdriverforum.me.uk/welcome/

You will often train with 5 or 6 other trainees. Pass criteria is variable depending on how short of drivers they are. But it is meant to be consistent with any other test centre. Normally allowed either 2 or 3 tests and then out on your neck.

Pete

If your leaving a job to go to stagecoach I wouldnt bother. When I started there were 12 trainees and only 5 made it through you have to get through everything in 2 weeks theory hp mod 2 mod 4 and driving test. The job is awful your abused by passengers nearly always late and are treated like crap by the bus company. Theres no air con or any form of cooling device in the summer So your basically driving round in a greenhouse!

I could ramble on about the negatives all day mate!

I worked for stagecoach Manchester, had a fab time and a good laugh during the training period after that reality sets in and hits you square on in the face.
passengers speak to you like sh*t the management are no better you spend your days looking at a diary to see what routes your on. I never bothered checking passes or anything they could show me an empty ■■■ packet they would have got on, My advice if you wish to take it would be have a really good think about it if you do decide to start good luck but be quick bonfire night is only around the corner you don’t want to miss the rockets being thrown onto the bus when you pull up at a stop :open_mouth: . I only lasted 5 weeks by the way

Continuing the run of ex-Stagecoach drivers on here, I left Stagecoach London back in May after acquiring my class 1 and I don’t regret it. I’m doing day work, getting paid class 1 money to drive a class 2 vehicle and I’m getting home to my wife and little boy at the same time every night.

Expect a nasty shift pattern consisting of earlies, middles and lates. You could be starting work at 4/5am one week and then finishing work at midnight/1am the next. It’ll mess with your body clock.

Which Stagecoach operating company have you been offered a job with?

hahahahahahahaha

Hello, thanks guys for replies.
Wow, I’m supprised by yours opinions, I thought they are decent company.
I have passed my Class 2 a few weeks ago and simultaneously been offered a job as a Trainee Bus Driver in Cambridge so want to have a go with them…
My main concern was how they conduct a whole training and are they really picky about your driving skills on exam? I have seen some nasty driving by their drivers so I assume can’t be that bad. Hm?
My friend works for them and he said they are ok, didn’t speak about details yet but want to know other opinions that why I asked you.
Passengers, well this is another story, don’t mind about daily moaning, but there were one ocasion when my friend had to brake harsh and then one lady claimed ,whiplash’’ few days later. Have you had this experience? People use every opportunity to dig money. Claim nation.
I got decent job but once I passed my HGV I have to start driving so still thinking what to do HGV or bus.
Again thanks for reply, tommorow I will talk with my friend and share his opinions about them.
Cheers

When it comes to people on the bus, where there is pain there is a claim. It’s unfortunate but that’s how a lot of people are now. Car drivers will try it on too, claiming that you’ve hit them when in fact you haven’t. This happens with a lorry too but then if you’re driving a vehicle with the company name plastered all over it most people just call up and take a chance!

I have had the experience of someone claiming after an event. I was doing a run out of Crossharbour Asda on the Isle of Dogs and was forced to brake particularly hard by an impatient car driver. One lady said she had been injured so I offered her an ambulance which was declined. 2 days later my boss wants to know what’s happened because she filed a claim.

If you’ve already done your class 2, forget the buses and go for your class 1 while the training is fresh in your mind. While the bus licence would be a good thing to fall back on should you need it, you’ll be tied into a training contract with Stagecoach and will end up owing them money if you leave inside a certain amount of time - usually 2 years - which won’t be much fun if you decide you don’t like it. Having switched from buses to lorries I have no regrets.
