Hartshead Services & M62 Westbound 9.5.14

Did anyone see the jack knifed Scania on Hartshead Moor services yesterday? He’d gone up the bank on the left & ‘come reet round’!!! Then after me 45 I head onto the M62 car park as a Stobarts had run up the jaxi of a low loader carrying an 80 ton (at least) machine on the run up the hill towards Ainley Top, what shocked me the most was the damage to the back end of the low loader, he must have really gone in hard!!

The N/S front of the Scania had hit the O/S rear corner of the low loader which left the trailer’s rear axle O/S wheels turned ‘in’ & the steelwork over the axles ‘peeled back’ & looking very 2nd hand. The Stobart truck was totally wrecked and clearly a write off but it was only after I’d passed the scene I started thinking, they’ll need another BIG low loader combination, unload the machine from the damaged one & load it on the replacement. Then, they’d probably need another BIG low loader & a crane to lift the damaged trailer onto as well, the Stobart Scania would be a standard recovery of a sha66ed artic combination.

Another bad Friday on the M62, I think there was another nasty one between j12 & 11 on the M62 later, I was tipping my tank in Middleton and was listening to it all on the radio, so once tipped & the empty dropped in Traf’ Pk I diverted to the A580 to get home to Liverpool.

I doubt the Hatfields driver would have been badly hurt as the truck wasn’t that badly damaged, I think the ‘tongue lashing’ from the boss for jack knifing on the services would’ve been his worst injury!!!

I’m glad the Stobart driver wasn’t badly hurt, a passenger might not have been so lucky had he had one!!!

Yeah agree with you , it looked like there was a hole in the windscreen of stobarts , I was going eastbound so only got a quick look, the traffic was unreal when I went by about 3ish ,I wouldn’t of liked to be stuck in it rush hour

It looked like the machine that was hanging over the back of the low loader did that, I was pig sick as it only happened while I was having a 45 on Hartshead!!!

Luckily I had a little time in hand, I was booked to tip at Sarsons Vinegar in Middleton @ 3pm & rolled in bang on time, more luck than judgement tho for sure!!! After getting shut of the empty & a re-route via the East Lanc’s back to Liverpool I got back to the yard with only 25 mins to spare on me 15!!!

Seen the low loader smashed in, further down the motorway Muppet hit central reservation and was sitting in it with his bird. was a nightmare day Friday.

I had to two do to tanks to Leeds and a reload. ended up doing a 15 myself , I’ve been off the road for a few years and now I know why, the standard of driving is beyond belief.

I nearly got stuck in it, but the queue was to the Huddersfield exit off the M62(w), so I dived off and went round the A-roads, which were heavy but moving.
