Do you remember Hammond Transport in East London, based in Whitwell Road, Canning Town E16 in the 40’s and 50’s moving to Meredith Street, Plaistow E13 through to the 60’s, relocating to Chobham Road, Stratford E15 through to 1984 ?. Pictures to follow. . . . . . .
It began with George Hammond in the 40’s delivering firewood, coal and coke and moving into general haulage doing ‘dock work’ out of the local docks in the East End. In the sixties this was taken over by his 2 sons George and Fred and eventually moved in to containerisation with artics. Later Fred was joined by his son Tony. George was joined firstly by son George and then Jim and Terry.
The Brother’s TV series was filmed in South London at Hilton Transport Services (HTS) yard and used their trucks. The Hammond brother’s name was just coincidence, the real brother’s ‘George and Fred’ had some good publicity because of this, they appeared on a news program called Nationwide in London, and had features in newspapers of the day.
I have a few pictures through the years to add soon and pictures of an F.G. Hammond Intl tilt, some good memories, hope you enjoy them!.
I remember them well Trevor Starkes had a KM Bedford which used to belong to them and Joe Ryan had a Scania 80 on there
Always remember them in Chobham Farm.

Hello,Looking at the trailer on the back of the 110 a few posts back I found these amongst my pictures…would this be a subbie as the lime green colour is miles away from the nice livery in the earlier shots.Cheers Bubbs
