How can what is billed here as the HUB of Eastern Canada ,The Halifax Nova Scotia Container Piers close for a half day but that might be the whole day for a union meeting. If you are reading this in the good old UK it might sound a bit like the bad days, when the dockers did nothing and got payed lots for it well that thinking is alive a well here. Just let me run you through the average working day of the hard pressed docker here start at 0800 stop for tea at 0945 -1015 back at it until 1145-1315 for a lay down and some power drinks to recoup the energy, stop again at 1445-1515 for a quick rest so they have the energy to carry on til 1630 when the last truck is allowed into the hallowed area. This is Monday to Friday because they do not load or unload trucks at the weekend. On top of all that they have the right to belittle you and make life as hard as they can because they are teflon coated. Making it hard to make a living working around the HUB of Eastern Canada, our local mayor has said that anyone who puts down the hard working piers should be ashamed of themselves guess what I’m not.
Would they get away with it in any port in the UK or europe I think not, and if you work out of a brit port count yourself as lucky.
Is that the horrible little container terminal right down town by the cruise terminal where that Oceanex ferry sails to Newfoundland? If so its a joke of a place, only went in there once when I worked for Armour, what a bunch of arrogant pricks.
If you’re talking about the deepsea container terminal then I have no idea what thats like but after three years in Canada I have come to the conclusion that 99% of the economy here is so inefficient that it wouldn’t last a month in Europe before folding.
Your right about the container terminal down by the cruise ship berths and the way things are run. We have been here for ten years now with a short break and I can not believe that this place can continue to survive with the management or lack of.

What ever you think about Stobarts they would not take on a such a waste of space and if they did there’s not one person that would be re-employed.
The radio system is really good as you say they can slag you off and you can not get back at them anywhere else it would be classed as bullying in the work place.
Rumour has it that they were not very happy after the union meeting Friday , they thought about working to rule but after carefull consideration it would mean they would have to work so voted that out.
So true. I ment Stobarts would make abetter job but as you say they don’t take on hopeless cases.
It really does beg belief at just how appalingly badly much of the economy on this continent is run, yet still survives.

One thing I have noticed is that no one does a better job and nothing that happens any where else in the world would work here. Its like the world stops at the coast East or West and there is nothing but monsters out there after that.
