Had a bad day 17/5/12 accident caught on roadhawk

merc0447:
Well worth the money  Ive had mine for about 2 years never once needed to use it for anything. Its just sits all day recoding away giving me peace of mind :grimacing:

looking at their website, it looked a pretty straight forward plug and play type device. is it?
i’m in a different truck every night, would it be practical do you think?

I’m impressed too, excellent having the navigation part recording alongside the road video, better picture than expected.

Car driver was really going for it, he was fortunate the knock didn’t spin him out.

Good point about indicators, i daresay future versions will incorporate them when the technology via wireless signal is perfected.

chilistrucker:
anyone know if any big fleets use, or have trialed them■■?

Bedfords have on board cameras in their newer trucks.

Ken.

My truck is used at night so I take mine out, you can hard wire it in but I use 12/24v charger. Take it out plug it in & thats it away you go.

Love the noise after he hit you, like you’d just won the jackpot on a fruit machine or sumut!

Joking aside, typical stupid manouver from your average jo on the street behind the wheel of a car that we all see nigh-on every day.
You were indicating right for bloody england in loads of time so that everyone knows your intentions and then a tool appears driving like he’s going through a chicane at Silverstone :unamused:
Bit of luck he’l be done for DWDCA.
I had similar a few days ago as one of em took an off slip on a DC and taking it so late he had to use all the chevrons and nearly the grass aswel, talk about wiping the screen on his way across! :imp:
Looks like those roadhawk’s are worth every penny!

thanks ken.
tyler, that sounds fine, i may look into that then. plug and play, same as most devices these days, sat-nav, ipods and the like.

So what happens Tyler, do press a button to save after the ding? I’m assuming it’s on a loop.

You can set it up to record continuous on a loop & it records 1 min files until memory card is full then it starts recording over from the start unless you press emergency button then it saves 20 second clip. 10 seconds b4 & 10 after.
Or you can have it recording continuous & events at the same time. That way if you break hard or swerve or hit something it triggers an event & auto saves 20 second clip. You can change sensitivity from low, medium or high. I have it on low but it still triggers an event sometimes if you go over a large pothole. You can save lots of files but the bigger the memory card the better it is. You can also choose picture quality from low to high. I only have a 4gb card in mine at the mo & that will record about 2.5 - 3hrs of driving continually on the high quality setting & save alot of event files. I am looking to get a 32gb card as i do around 7hrs driving everyday & that will be enough to store the whole day incase i get accused of any road rage type incident.

just had a quick look on the roadhawk website, seems a very impressive bit of kit.
based on the world we live in today, and how much we are governed and the costs involved in insurance claims, i’m surprised these cameras aren’t in most trucks on the road.

Our insurance company (Towergate) gave us a roadhawk camera for free with the policy, as they obviously think they can really help cut down false claims. Once we’d got the sensitivity set right and not being set off on building sites it’s been spot on for us. Never go anywhere without it now, just not needed it in anger yet luckily.

Must admit it has impressed me. At £200 for the entry level, thats less than the excess on my insurance and it would prove without doubt you weren’t at fault and save the excess.

Unless you were at fault, then you didn’t have a camera

and possibly get a discount on your premium

It’s a trap, I tell you! Don’t fall for it!

 well as a newbie on the civvie circuit soon, im spending some of my payout money on 1 of these things.

Impressed with that roadhawk, would be good to see the one with the camera’s pointing from the mirror’s down the side of the trucks too which I’ve heard you can have. It will show the car driver racing to beat the truck to an exit he shouldn’t be using and that he knows it.

As for this incident, even if you were indicating left and / or taking that exit, he still shouldn’t have tried to overtake you and make the exit, basically was cutting you up and got caught out. MORE ROADHAWK NEEDED !!!

Tyler, have you found that you drive differently now you have the Roadhawk recording the day? Does it act as a moderator on your own actions?

All of these devices that are there ostensibly to help one, have a nasty habit of turning on one just when one needs them most.

Remember when tachographs were going to protect us and help us do our jobs?

Remember when a speed trace “would never be used as evidence of speeding”?

Remember when tracking devices were there to help us in case we were accused of something we didn’t do?

Now we’ve been so conditioned into being spied upon, we’re volunteering to spend our own money to purchase yet another device to spy on us!
