That is one great shot ! I wonder what spec it was,Leyland 375/Turner 5 speed box/Eaton 2 speed ? BTC 4-in-line ? which looks to have a bit more overhang than was usual on those trailers, never the less I fancy my chances behind the wheel of that Gem ! 15ton one drop London (on pallets!).Oh! and those Guy’s had a radio and a shaver point eh! Happy Days Bewick.
Dennis, This 4 in line could be a York one, I pulled a one in 1966, Which looked about the same speck & overhang, Mind you I never saw many of these about made by York in that era, But I must say the Yorks had better brakes than the BTCs, IMO, Regards Larry.
There is a badge on the front end of the chock rave Larry but It’s bad to make out ! What length do you reckon the trailer is ? Cheers Dennis.

I would say 30ft, , The deep chock rail points to the York design, IMO, Regards Larry.

The badge looks very much like the Boden style and the landing legs are very Boden like, the York would have had the Maple Leaf motif. Franky.
Yes that could be a Boden badge which was sort of a “squashed” oval casting but I often wondered why some four-in-lines had overhang and many didn’t have hardly any ? Was it to help the permitted drive axle load on some tractor units possibly ? Cheers Bewick.
Not sure Dennis, maybe a weight distribution thing as the max length for Artic was the same by then whether a twin or single axle, its strange at the time you don’t really question these things they only seem odd many years later when the memory has slowed down! Franky.

It would be about the mid '60’s when C & U regs changed and the 33 foot tandem started to appear and then finally the 40 footer which caused a lot of problems for some large fleets such as Robsons of Carlisle who had a large fleet of Northern 33 footers and they had to scramble to get in on the act as customers soon started to demand the longer trailer, but many were not willing to pay for the extra length as I recall ! Cheers Dennis

Gentlemen
Trailer 21 was a 28 foot Boden
I Cant remember the engine or gearbox but it did have a 2 speed axle

Thanks for that info,so being 28ft probably accounts for the overhang at the backend, would it have been as a result of C & U regs or just for better handling I wonder.Cheers Bewick.

my first thought was ‘boden’ . i have a boden badge in my shed, faded in the photo , but superficially looks the same
