GUY Big J 8LXB Tractor Unit

plenty of room left in the shelter lads , don’t forget the tin hat and keep your heads down !!!

ramone:
Maybe the Big J cab was a little deeper than the Atki and the engine didnt stick out so much

Maybe, with the Guy having a deeper cab, the extra two pots were mounted on top of t’other six?

Pete.

As a famous football player now manager once said Maybes Aye , Maybes Naw !! …

or as the speaker of the House of Commons says Ayes to the Right , Nos to the Left

A very interesting , entertaining & intriguing topic , but just like the Monster in Loch Ness , a lot of searching , surveys & modern technology has failed to come up with some conclusive proof .

Surely , in this day , IF the said 8LXB Big J did exist , someone , somewhere must have a Big J Brochure stating this as an option , some info from within Guy ,info from within Gardners or whatever .

Within this forum , there are many many thousands of photos , of many and various Commercial vehicles , some very very rare & obscure , but even one of the almost mythical 8LXB Big J , is most conspicuous by its absence .

Even within the last few days , an X SoM worker is asking on Brianedgar s website if anyone has photos of the one they had
As for me , I will sit aside and watch this run & run

Eloquently put CO but according to the percieved wisdon of the “aye sayers” SOM used to operate 39 8LXB Guy Big J’s then up pops Murray Smith,a son of one of the Smith Bros. and declares that SOM ran 12 Guy 8LXB’s Now you are telling us that an ex SOM worker is enquiring about shots of the ONE Big J 8LXB that SOM did actually operate !! Very confusing to some of us “old hands” to get our heads round Doh !! Thanks for your help in this ongoing matter but do not be alarmed if you are on the recieving end of abusive comments from the “aye” sayers !! cheers Bewick.

CB,…as stated numerous times, just because there has not been any pictures taken does not infer they didnt exist,I and 38 other drivers actually drove the beastie, the 12 that Murray Smith has mentioned, were probably all MD designated, that is Maddiston Depot.

Take it easy,

David

Did the engine stick out the back of the cab■■?

The two extra cylinders stuck out of the fron’t on the Big J,surely you must have seen the Guy’s with a Bull nose running about “ramone”. Thats why there are no shots of the back of the cab !!! I don’t think there’s any of the fron’t of the cab either but then again thats just a minor detail I suppose ! Cheers Dennis.

Hi David,
They know ■■■■ well that they existed, but won’t admit it.How many drivers took pics of the front of lorries, let alone the back of the cab.I know they existed because M A Evans had one,and they have no reason to lie.
Cheers Dave.

Or in pantomine terms …oh no it didnt,oh yes it did, …i cant understand why there is very little info on any of the Guy range on the internet unlike other british manufacturers
