GUY Big J 8LXB Tractor Unit

Now you’re being plain silly!

Hi Guys (Sorry about the pun). I am trying to find a picture that appeared in one of the truck mags many years ago. It was an advert for a Guy Big J. The tractor unit had a sleeper cab and it was painted silver and bright green. Not sure which mag it was though.
Any help please.

Taking the Box Brownie to Astle Park tomorrow. Hoping to get that elusive photo. Watch this space, Dennis!

Hi aspirate, I remember the ad’, being that long ago it was probably in Commercial Motor, not sure about the sleeper-cab though? My memory says day cab, but I stand to be corrected! I think you can now go into the Commercial Motor archives on line, not done it myself but maybe someone else on here has, you may find it on there! Regards Chris

Hi Chris, definitely a sleeper. I think the truck may have been on a show stand. It was silver with lime green front wings I have the timing at around 1978 and that makes it one of the last I believe. I rather think I found a picture on Flicker but it was in black and white. The picture I refer to was a full page front left corner shot with mood lighting. Someone else told me to look on Bubbleman scrap book memories but there are over 450 odd pages. I have gone through 150 and it took me 4 hours.

Is this the one?

I found this one, but the one I’m talking about was a low front three quarter picture and definitely a sleeper cab. I have seen a picture of the same tractor on a flicker site but it was a side on and in black and white.

SO DID IT HAVE AN 8LXB ENGINE?

If not these posts should be on the normal Guy thread.

Sorry, EW, I had great hopes of getting that elusive photo at the Astle Park gathering but unfortunately the weather was poor and the Big J/Gardner 8 had departed before I arrived.

I think this will reveal the truth as you can see that these are fitted with a Gardner 8LXB of the marine type and offer numerous advantages to the operator such as less congestion, dodging Ministry of Transport checks and being able to class this as time on a ferry as well as keeping them away from prying eyes so the competition will be at loss as to how you can get through so much work. :unamused:
This also shows why the loads had to be sheeted to very high standard

If the government at had seen this and caught on it would have saved a fortune building the channel tunnel as well. :open_mouth:

ANON.

Just Like Eddie :stuck_out_tongue:
