I worked for a firm that ran vehicles with both 8 pot Gs’ and 220 Rollers inboard,
I drove the “Percy” engined stuff and I couldn’t live with the RRs’ at 32 GVW, so
why would a gaffer go to the extra expense of buying Gardner when he could get
a better performing motor at a cheaper price, and I found there was nothing at
all wrong with either the RRs’ or ■■■■■■■ which I know for a fact that Guy did
prefer to use and push.

I think you’ve omitted to add a zero to the 4 Lance,I have been assured by “them as knows” that SOM did have 40 8 potter Big J’s but the bloke who told us did “a runner” to Canada and is refusing to return to verify his claim Also I was told from a good source (or should that be “sauce” ) that the 8 potters were all built during the mid-day brew times by the management while the lads were sat in the canteen,so when they returned to the line there was just the usual ■■■■■■■ engines waiting to be “dropped” into the chassis.So this will account as to why none of the production line lads ever saw an 8 potter Cheers Dennis.
