Gross weights and the Dvsa

Does anyone know something I don’t ,the Dvsa have stopped a 32 tonne 8 wheeler with a 18 tonne draw bar trailer that has a gtw of 44 tonne and said it should only be operating at 40 tonnes they have backed this up in an email to the operator which refers to a 3 plus 3 artic situation that is not relative to the draw bar rigid set up .

I dont see how they have come uo with that idea.

Return of the wagon and drag

Wheelnut’s link should show * and ** and “b”.
At least 3 metres from rear axle of wagon to front axle of trailer? And other conditions apply, such as road friendly suspension…That may not be relevant of course, but check the details.
Certainly 3 plus 3, rigid and trailer can be 44t.

Well are they correct so anyone with a 4 axle rigid and 2 axle trailer can only run at 40 tonne gross unless they use a 3 axle trailer .

3 plus 3 is obvious but this is going to catch a lot out once it spreads amongst the Dvsa :open_mouth:

Wouldn’t most outfits running an 8x4 and a tandem trailer be in specialist work anyway, not a combination you see every day, sorta work you do Dan where max weights arn’t the issue normally?

I’am not sure on this but when you read up on the info it’s worded towards artic situations and doesn’t lend its self to be interpreted for use with a wagon & drag .

Max weight is not always an issue apart from the odd out going load .

What I don’t get is I can load my tandem drag to 18 tonne gross or to 14 when the lorry is 26 but a 32 tonne lorry can’t pull a tandem drag at 12 tonne gross it just doesn’t make any sense .

Well it’s right a 4 axle rigid can’t operate at 44 tonne with a 2 axle trailer ,it must be a 7 axle set up as in triaxle trailer .
