Grab Lorries

Hi all

Ever since I was a child I’ve loved them, when my neighbour used to drive one for Situsec. On the occasions he operated the grab crane I was glued to the window as he used it! I remember he originally had a 2x8 and then a 4x8, each with an Atlas crane and a clamshell grab.

Interestingly the UK seems to be the one country that uses them but the are so versatile and I normally see one every day on the roads. I particularly like the ones Riney use (probably because I seem them used around where I live and work):

I’ve been trying to buy a diecast model of one, but there doesn’t seem to be any in existence.

This is my regular motor. We’ve only had it a few months and it’s our first grab wagon (replaced a standard 6w tipper). Very basic MAN TGM with a 290 engine. Ex LC Vehicle Hire which explains it’s bog standard fleet spec. Payload is pretty good at almost 13t.
It will be signwritten (eventually). :blush:

This was one of our grabs, when it was new.

Our only 8x4 - all the previous were 6x4, but not got any photos of any of those, unfortunately.
